Did you ever second-guess your doctor or maybe just started to feel something wasn’t quite right? My oldest child has a heart condition and we had an amazing cardiologist until about four years ago. Then his doctor retired, which probably was for the best as he was starting to slip in his old age. So rather than face a future medical negligence suit from missing something or misdiagnosing, he retired.
Since we had an HMO at the time, we didn’t have a lot of options for pediatric cardiologists so we went with who we were referred to. The new doctor was much younger and female, total opposite of what we were used to. Now I am not saying she was a bad doctor but she just wasn’t for us. I do really believe that doctors and patients are all not meant to be together and with serious conditions especially you want to be comfortable with them.
Luckily our insurance changed right after that appointment over to PPO, which meant we could switch over to a doctor of our choosing. We were also fortunate that we were able to know someone else local who has a child with a heart condition and they were able to refer us to a great doctor.
My son’s heart was not something I was going to trust to anyone and our new doctor is amazing. She answers all my questions and even my text messages – yes how many doctors these days give out their cell phone numbers!
