10 Things to do in Fort Wayne, Indiana

Living in the midwest, my family is all about road trips and luckily there is no shortage of places to go. No matter which direction we drive, we can easily hit a family-friendly destination. One of our last road trips was to Fort Wayne, Indiana, which actually has a lot of fun attractions to visit.

Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo

We ended up here on a day with some rain but could have easily spent all day (if not more) there. Wherever we go, I love checking out zoos and this zoo did not disappoint as we got to feed a giraffe up close! Seriously up close! My kids still talk about the giraffe feeding!

The zoo has all the typical animals including Tasmanian devils which we learned were rare to find at a zoo. There are rides you can take as well, such as a train and chair lift – not like crazy roller coasters!

Science Central

This is a building that is all about science fun and everything is hands on. There are demonstrations and so much to explore. You could easily spend a whole day there!

Tin Caps Baseball

This is a local minor league baseball team that offers all the excitement of the pros but at a family-affordable. My kids didn’t know the difference and it was a perfect way to spend a night doing!

De Brand Fine Chocolates

De Brand Fine Chocolates is located in downtown Fort Wayne area and a great little chocolate shop to pop into for some sweet treats! There are tons of places to also visit while walking around downtown.

Don Halls Triangle Park Restaurant

This is part of a chain but it felt so wholesome and cozy inside. My family enjoyed a great meal and loved the atmosphere.

We spent two days in Fort Wayne, Indiana and my kids had a blast. If it wasn’t for the rain we probably would have explored more but this just goes to show too that it is still fun to visit on a rainy weekend!

Other activities in Fort Wayne to check out

Riverfront – Fort Wayne recently remodeled their riverfront to offer a tree-top trail, riverfront park and water features, concert shell, and more! It was under construction when we were there so we didn’t get to explore.

Botanical Conservatory – this conservatory houses over 25,000 square feet of indoor gardens of various plant collections.

Fort Wayne Museum of Art – this is a museum with collections from American fine and decorative art from the nineteenth century to the present plus a hands-on learning environment for young kids.

Yummi Bunni – this is an ice cream shop with lots of fun treats offered.

Various Festivals – there seems to always be something going on in Fort Wayne. While we were there, there was GreekFest and GearFest – so really something for everyone! Check out the Fort Wayne website to see what is going on!
