Last summer at the library I saw a poster about “Summer Slide” which said something along the lines of ” The average student loses a month of learning each summer. ” How crazy is it that all the progress from school slowly disappears each summer if kids don’t use it. To me it makes sense as the brain works like a muscle and muscles don’t improve and they weaken if they are not used.
So every summer I harp on my kids to read, work on workbook pages and spend some time on educational apps and websites. I figure if I keep trying then something will stick or they will just learn to go with the flow and learn a few things. Reading is an easy way to keep kids brains moving.
