10 Reasons to Get a GOTRAX Electric Scooter for Your Teen (or Yourself)

I received this product to review in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.

My oldest son is 13 years old and I feel like that is in the in-between age range. He feels he is too old for some things but then not old enough for others. He feels he is too old for a regular scooter and has been asking for a pocket bike or something else electric. We did try electric scooters years ago for my boys but they were bulky and the charge didn’t last very long. Scooters have definitely come a long way!

We got the GOTRAX GXL V2 2020 for my 13-year-old and he literally zooms around on it all day! He thinks he is so cool I feel like it has bought me some time for him to still be a kid but not yet driving a car! Definitely safer too in my opinion than some other electric toys out there.

Here are 10 reasons to get your teen (or yourself) a GOTRAX electric scooter:

  • My son is actually going outside and exploring. He has been zooming around our neighborhood throughout the day and in the evening especially. While he could ride his bike, he actually has outgrown his bike and we haven’t been able to find an affordable one in stock.
  • At under $300, it is a great way to compromise with your kid if they want an electric ride-on. We looked at go-karts and pocket bikes but they were over $500, closer to $1,000.
  • 8.5″ air-filled tires that easily ride over bumps and cracks on the city streets and sidewalks
  • 15.5 mph which is fast but not too fast. I feel like it goes the perfect speed and what is super cool is that there is even a digital screen showing you how fast you are going! There are even two different settings too – Use 1st gear for a comfortable 10mph ride, or kick it into second gear and get the full 15.5 mph experience.
  • 12 miles on a single charge means my son can ride for days without charging and for an adult using to commute this could mean a few days as well. I remember having to charge our old scooter after 30 minutes of riding, this one lasts forever it feels like! You can also check the battery life percentage on the LED screen.
  • Want to just cruise? This scooter even has cruise control!
  • Ultra bright headlight for riding in the dark. This is an amazing feature to me and extends the usage of the scooter since my son can now ride in the dark around. I think it is almost as bright as a car headlight!
  • Designed for users up to 220lbs. which means teens and adults can use.
  • The GXL Frame folds down to 15″x44″x6″ and locks for easy storage making it a perfect ride for on-the-go. For an adult commuter that means they can easily store it under their desk. For a teen it means they can take it to work or a friends house.
  • Waterproof Rating of IP54 which means a little rain or splashes won’t hurt it! Perfect since sometimes you never know when you’ll get a light rain here in Chicago!

Honestly my son has not bugged me for anything for weeks as he has been so busy with his scooter. It has really bridged the gap from kids ride-ons to driving a car for us. It takes a lot to impress my teen but he thinks this scooter is amazing because of the headlight, way it folds down and how fast it actually goes. He actually brought it with us when we went to visit the grandparents so he could show it off there! Oh and my husband is already saying he is borrowing it when he is allowed to go back to work in the city since he has to walk about a mile from the train to his office.

  • That scooter looks so cool. I can see myself scooting around town with a backpack and driving my kids absolutely crazy.

  • Wishing our rural community had sidewalks, would have bought this straight up for El Dr., BB's eldest grandson.

  • This electric scooter sounds like a wonderful gift idea for teens. My nephew is turning 11 next month. I'll check out with him if he's interested in it!

  • My daughter loves her electric scooter. Her dad wants to get her the OneWheel, but I think there's probably more of a learning curve on that.

  • These look like so much fun!! We ride the scooters sometimes when we are in a large city. My kids would love to have one.

  • Wow this looks like a serious scooter! My daughter has an electric one but it's not this nice!

  • My son has an electric scooter but it does not have all the bells and whistles like the GoTrax. I know he is due for an upgrade so i have to get this one next
