Experience Art in “Frida Kahlo: Timeless”

I received tickets in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.

Right here in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, we get to experience the most comprehensive presentation of Frida Kahlo’s work displayed in the Chicago area in over 40 years. Direct from loan from the Museo Dolores Olmedo, a 26-piece collection of an array of oil paintings and works on paper spanning the life of Kahlo. If you are not familiar with Frida Kahlo, she was a Mexican painter known for her many portraits, self-portraits, and works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico and lived from 1907-1954.

Kahlo struggled with chronic pain and used her art as an outlet which is one of the reasons I love her as an artist. She channeled her struggles and showed female empowerment and courage.

Alongside the 26 original works there are replicas of notable objects from Kahlo’s life including Kahlo’s childhood bed and orthotic braces created by Chicago-based artists Daniel Sullivan and Betsy Odom, more than 100 photographic images from the artist’s life, Frida Kahlo-inspired garden designed by Ball Horticultural Company, and a family-friendly children’s area featuring a model replica of Frida’s Casa Azul in Coyoacán, Mexico designed by Wight& Co.

Original artworks by Frida Kahlo in “Frida Kahlo: Timeless” include:

Each piece of art has a card to read and while there is a lot of reading around the exhibit there is a ton to look at, which my 9-year-old enjoyed.
