Ballas Hough Band CD Review

Okay so I admit, I do not watch Dancing With The Stars (DWTS). I tried to watch it a few times but never could get into it. Anyways, if you do then you have definitely heard of Mark Ballas and Derek Hough, who have each won a season from DWTS. If you are like me then you have no idea what I am talking about, but that is okay because I am actually going to tell you about their new self-titled cd they just released, “Ballas Hough Band.”

Before I tell you what I thought of the cd I wanted to give you a little bio of the band. Mark Ballas and Derek Hough, who both sing and play guitar, are actually professional ballroom dancers which is how they ended up on Dancing With The Stars. They have been making music together for over a decade and love to entertain. They began forming their band and soon added friends Emily Grace (keyboards/vocals) and Sam Marder (bass). They actually found their drummer, Harry Sullivan by cold calling Surrey’s prestigious Academy of Contemporary Music.

While Mark and Derek were working with Dancing With The Stars, they were also renting out a Hollywood studio to practice dancing but decided that they need to work with their band which was still back in London. So Emily, Sam and Harry flew to Hollywood to meet Mark and Derek and start working on their cd. Once they worked out their bugs and got their music how they wanted they they signed with Hollywood Records. Now you may be thinking, “How good could their music be with them being ballroom dancers?” Well they are actually quite good and they even write most of their own songs.

Their first single, “Do It For You,” was actually co-written by new American Idol judge Kara Dioguardi and is a great introduction to the band’s pop music side. It is a catchy song and has a great tune. Since listening to their cd, I have grown to love the first song titled “Do you Love Me.” It reminds me of a Maroon 5 song and is bubbly, flows, and I can sing to it. Their music reminds me of N Sync and Maroon 5 as it is all heartfelt pop songs that are fun to sing and remember. Their new pop cd, “Ballas Hough Band,” as I said was just released March 10th and contains 11 great songs.

Track Listing:
  • Do You Love Me
  • Devasted
  • Closer
  • She Was The One
  • Longing For
  • Birthday
  • Fall
  • Do It For You
  • Break Through
  • Together Faraway
  • Underwater
