MY THOUGHTS:

Okay so finally I got to watch Avatar and I would say it was good.  I definitely am glad I watched it, but honestly it was so long.  Now even though the movie was long, I would have like to see more about the Navi people and what happened before Jake arrived.  Maybe it is just me, but I would love a pre-quel to the movie, but then again I am a huge Sigourney Weaver fan and I think she was a big part in the Navi project.

Avatar is science fiction, but I don’t think you have to be a science fiction geek to still appreciate it.  I think it a movie that everyone should see at least once as it has a good story line and characters.  It is predictable, but I don’t think they could have done it any other way.  The special effects were awesome and I am always amazed at how the effects are done, and I am sure in 3D this movie was pretty cool.  (I didn’t get a chance to see it in theatres.)

Overall, Avatar is a good movie.  I love science fiction movies, but this one just was okay for me.  Now some other members in my family are in love with it and could watch it over and over, but for me maybe every now and then I will put it on again.  I do like the lessons it displayed over communication barriers, preserving nature, greed, and determination, just to name a few.  I also want to mention that it does have quite a few swear words towards the beginning just in case you don’t want your children to hear those.

Did you check out my Earth Day Avatar Post?  Here are some pictures from the event!

  • Great DVD review!
I've heard that people either love it or hate it, so it's nice to see an 'indifferent' person in the mix :)
Personally, I LOVED it, but like you said, I think I loved the symbolism and messages behind the movie itself. That and the COLORS!! It was truly a very vivid and beautiful movie.
