iPhone / iPod Touch App Review & Giveaway: Number Sense – 2 Winners! (Ends 5/26)

Number Sense

Released: April 28, 2010

ABOUT THE APP:

A new app for kids between ages 4 to 8 years that will keep the little ones entertained while developing their basic math skills, improving their concentration and inculcating an affinity for Mathematics. This app is a combination of 5 math based games.

Booster Balls – Helps your kids learn counting from 1 to 30 by feeding some monsters. Don’t worry, the monsters don’t bite but the game will definitely keep your kids occupied.
Do the Dotty – Simple but engaging connect-the-dots games that will help your kids recognize and memorize numbers in the right order. Oh, and don’t be surprised if they show you a moon that they have just colored blue!
Numberella – A super hero donkey (Drizzle is his name) is all you need to get kids to compare numbers, without objects, from 1 to 10. And yeah, Drizzle can be tickled too!
Fishoonka – This deceptively simple game uses a school of fish to demonstrate the concepts of greater than, less than and equal to! Your kids are gonna love the interactive environment.
Toot Toot Train – From Chocolateville to Licorice Lane runs a train that relies on addition and subtraction. Curious? You will simply have to play the game!

Rewards:

You didn’t think we would leave out the rewards did you? Every game has a unique reward that your kid can add to their ‘My Stuff’ shelf and show off proudly to everyone!

Mathomatix will keep your little ones entertained while developing their basic math skills, improving their concentration, and encouraging a love for all things Math. MY THOUGHTS:

My first thoughts on this game was “Wow this only cost $2.99?”  I cannot beleive how much is jam packed in this app.  My 3 year old loves it!  It has numbers in all different games, which is what he is learning now.  One app counts, one he has to pick the biggest number (this one is tough for him since he is only 3), one he has to add or subtract train cars (it is not easy to play though), one he has to connect the dots (easy to figure out) and finally he has to figure out which has more or less of an object.  Granted this is a little above my 3 year old’s head right now, but he is defintiely picking it up and learning!  THe graphics are awesome and bright, which definitely helps since kids like snazzy pictures.

Number Sense really does offer a lot and every time I look at what Aidan is doing, it is something different in the game.  I am sure he will master it and get bored eventually, but I do think he is at the perfect age for it and it is going to help him with math.  His favorite game in Number Sense is the Toot-Toot Train and he loves playing around with the train cars.  I also can’t believe how many trophies he has already, maybe I have a future math genius!  Overall, I would definitely recommend Number Sense for any child either pre-math or during, as all the games are fun and with five games in this app, it makes it worth the few dollars!
