DVD Review: “Juno Jr. – The Day the Music Stopped”

Juno Jr.: The Day the Music Stopped

Studio: Juno Baby

Running Time: 60 minutes

ABOUT:

When Bunny presses the big red button on Murphy’s Shush Machine, she inadvertently silences the town of Harmonia Springs. Juno realizes that, in order to bring life back to the town, she and her friends have to create their own music through melody, harmony, rhythm and — most of all — friendship.

Geared toward your growing preschooler, Juno Jr. expands on the Emmy Award-winning Juno Baby line with beautiful, original, orchestral music, rich story lines and a deep emphasis on music education and appreciation. Join Juno and her brother, Rai Rai, as they take an adventure to the imaginary, magical, musical world of Harmonia Springs.

The Juno Company is a children’s media brand based in California.  The company was founded by orchestral composer/mom, and is all about learning through music.  They have a collection of DVDs, CDs, books, and toys.  It’s a mixture of live puppets and animation, with the puppets having been created with help from the Jim Henson crew. The Juno Company brands have won numerous awards including an Emmy for the Juno Baby series. Furthermore, with an emphasis on doing well by doing good, The Juno Company donates a special music education DVD to a child in need for every product purchased through their One for All program. Buy One. Give One.

MY THOUGHTS:

My boys are not big music lovers but this DVD may have changed that.  Juno Jr. The Day the Music Stopped features puppets with animation and the combination is amazing.  All the scenes are so bright and colorful, it is hard not to watch it!  There is live original orchestral music in the background as well as the puppets singing their own songs.  It is an hour long DVD full of non-stop music, dancing, and singing.  There are scenes with real kids which is neat as well as numbers and music notes.  I admit at first I thought the DVD would be cheesy but the colors and scenes are really amazing and fun.  Oh and did I mention there is an adorable train that my son’s love!  I wish I could explain more about the characters other than to say they are puppets but not like Sesame Street puppets but rather a little mixture of animation in them.  The dialogue is easy to follow for preschoolers and even my little guy loves just listening to the music and seeing the colors.  It is a great DVD for any young child.
