Last February, Disney launched its Disney Junior channel and with it “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” which has continued to break all previous records for Disney Channel’s preschool programming! “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” has become cable’s #1 series for boys 2-5 since its launch and is on track to be Disney Channel’s #1 preschool series ever! 45% of moms actually watch it with their preschooler, I know I do!
In case you have never seen “Jake and the Never Land Pirates,” it is an adorable pirate cartoon for kids featuring a crew of kid prates – Jake, Izzy and Cubby. They have fun Never Land Adventures and of course they have to outwit Captain Hook and Mr. Smee. There is problem solving, teamwork, and rewards, not to mention fun music from Sharky and Bones. I love that I can relieve my love for Peter Pan and Never Land through this show with my kids!
My boys could watch the Disney Channel all day if I let them, but they do get antsy when the tween shows come on (Good Luck Charlie, Wizards of Waverly Place…) As preschoolers they pretty much only like animated shows and it seems like at times when they really need a Disney show, like to wind down after school or dinner, there is a tween show on. Don’t get me wrong the tween shows are cute by I’d prefer 24 hours of Disney Junior shows. Well guess what? Starting early 2012, a brand new standalone 24-hour Disney Junior channel will air! (The current Disney Junior programming is from 4 am to 2 pm ET weekdays and 4am-9am on weekends.) So soon parents of 2-7 year olds can get Disney Junior shows 24 hours a day!
Coming up next for “Jake and the Never Land Pirates?” A Holiday Special of course! In the episode titled “It’s a Winter Never Land! / Hook on Ice,” Jake, Izzy, and Cubby awake to find Peter Pan has left the crew some presents and a tree to celebrate Winter Treasure Day. Captain Hook then invited the crew on a winter treasure hunt!
DON’T MISS: The Holiday episode premieres Friday, December 2 (8:30-9:00 am ET/PT) on the Disney Channel.
