DVD Review: “In Time”

In Time

Released: January 31, 2012

Studio: 20th Century Fox

Running Time: 109 minutes

ABOUT:

Let the countdown begin.  Leave the existing world behind and enter into a futuristic world where the aging gene is switched off after 25 and time is money, literally, that many can’t afford in the cutting-edge thriller IN TIME, arriving on Blu-ray and DVD January 31 from  Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.  Featuring an all-star cast including  Justin Timberlake (The Social Network), Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia!) and Cillian Murphy (Inception), the film puts an innovative spin on class warfare and explores the corruptness that lies within.

In the future, time has become the ultimate currency and genetic alteration has allowed people to stop aging at 25 years old.  Upon reaching 25, the countdown begins and in order to stay alive everyone must work to buy themselves more time or die within a year.  The rich can buy their way out of the situation, while the rest are left to negotiate for immortality.  When a struggling young man, Will Salas  (Timberlake), comes in contact with a “millionaire,” he is gifted more time than he can imagine.  Falseley accused of murder, Will is a fugitive on the run and becomes determined to bring down the entire system by any means possible.

MY THOUGHTS:

First off I may be a little bias because I am a Justin Timberlake (as an actor) fan, but I really liked this movie.  It is a movie based in the future where the currency is “time” instead of money.  The people in the movie stop aging at 25 years old and get one more year on their life, but they can earn more time by working and of course stealing!  There is some killing, stealing, death, love, and action.

Justin’s character is a blue-collar guy who lives day-to-day, literally, and ends up with a whole lot of extra time on his life.  He decides to do some good but that raises questions and problems.  After meeting a girl, he causes more good and trouble.  While you could figure out how the movie was going to end, there was a few things that caught me by surprise.  I really like the story line of “time” currency and I would have never thought of anything like it, but it really makes you think about life.   While it is somewhat science-fiction because it is about the future, its really more of an entertaining somewhat-action movie.

I think “In Time” is a great movie that I can definitely watch a few more times!
