The Singing Machine Karaoke Player {Review}

Disclosure:  I received the product below to review in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.

My boys (5 and 7) love music all of the sudden.  They want to listen to it, dance to it and try to sing along to it.  I was going to get them a regular cd player and then I heard about The Singing Machine.

Since 1982, The Singing Machine has been manufacturing consumer karaoke machines, along with other musical products, and the best part is that they are affordable! You can find some of the best ones from The Singing Machine on this page. I got the chance to check out the Singing Machine (Model SML383) Karaoke Machine and it has been a hit in my house!

Singing Machine: SML383

Compact karaoke machine pumps all your favorite music from a colorful, lightweight package.

  • Perfect gift for kids who love to sing
  • Jack into your TV and rock your music from your favorite CD+Gs
  • Disco light feature kicks up your performance with serious retro style
  • Available in vibrant colors, and designs including pink, blue and black
  • 2 Microphone Jacks for unforgettable duets
  • RCA output jacks to connect to your TV for scrolling lyrics (TV not included)

You would have thought this was a pot of gold (or candy) when my kids say it, they were that excited.  Right out of the box the machine was ready to go.  We added a CD and they were jamming.  It comes with one microphone, which honestly I don’t think I am ready for two screaming kids, but there is a port for an additional microphone you can buy separately.  There is an AC adapter to plug in which is what we use, but there is the option for batteries.  We may end up putting some batteries in it for the summer time when we are outside more, but in the house it is fine with the plug.  You can use both regular and karaoke CDs called CD+Gs which allow for the lyrics to pop up on the tv screen.  Honestly my boys can care less about the karaoke part as far as reading off the television goes since they can’t really read right now anyways.  We use this machine primarily as a CD player and of course they “sing” into the microphone.  Oh and the machine is super light that my boys have no problem carrying it from room to room to plug it in.  I wouldn’t say it is super durable, it doesn’t feel too sturdy but we haven’t had any problems in the month or so we’ve been using it.

Overall, for just under $50 The Singing Machine Karaoke player has been a hit with my family.  My kids use it almost daily and it has stood up to their use.  It is super easy to use.  My boys favorite feature is probably the lights you can turn on, they love it for their “dance parties.”  Oh and I should add that even though ours is black, the player does come in other fun colors!

BUY IT:  Check out the Singing Machine: SML383 Karaoke Player at your local Target, Toys R Us, Walmart or Radio Shack for a suggested retail price of $49.99
