ABOUT THE BOOK:
Songs tell a story, and now many of country music’s most famous singers and songwriters are sharing more of the story! These artists reveal the inspiration, influence, and background, and when and why they wrote their most famous songs, in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Country Music. The book also includes great photos of the songwriters and all of the lyrics. A great gift for anyone who loves country music!
Foreword by Randy Rudder, a country music journalist.
MY THOUGHTS:
First off let me say I am not a country music fan, but as someone who loves to read non-fiction this book is great! “Chicken Soup for the Soul: Country Music” features 101 stories told by the writes of popular country songs. They include how the writer thought of the song, how the artist acted/felt about recording it, history of the song in general and more. It was actually really interesting to read these stories and for someone who really appreciates country music and knows the songs. I do like country artists like Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood and Johnny Cash and all of them have stories in there. There is a great story too based on the song “Live Like You Were Dying” which was recorded by Tim McGraw. The writers of the song passed the song to him not knowing that Tim rides bulls and that his father was actually dying at the time, Tim decided to record the song anyway since it was actually what he was going through. Oh and at the end of the 2-3 page story of each song, there is even a snippet of the song/chorus.

I much prefer the older country music than what is offered today.
It used to be that if you bought an album, most of the songs on the album were released as singles, so you knew the songs. Today, maybe only two songs get released as singles, so you are unfamiliar with the rest of the material. You have to really like the artist to buy a CD of which you have no idea how good the material will be.
Also, the country music genre today is way too crowded. Some singers have a couple of hits and then they are gone. There are only a few who have longevity. I cannot keep up with all the new artists.
I love listening to older country music via several online radio stations.
Thanks for the great giveaway. The book looks really interesting. ~Pauline
