Disclosure: I received the products below to review in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.
Now that my kids are getting older, I want to start instilling a family game night tradition with them. We have tried before to play regularly but honestly there is only so much Candyland and other young kid games I can play and my kids didn’t have the focus to play regularly. I am so excited that my boys at least are old enough to finally play some older games!
R&R Games is a company whose mission is to produce high quality family board games that can be played around all the time. From fun games to challenging games to big games and little games, R&R Games has a something for everyone. They offer a unique assortment of family an party games that include such hits as PIGPILE!, TIME’S UP! and SMARTY PARTY. They also feature a super creative toy and game in one called Hide & Seek Safari, which is a twist on the old hot and cold game and has become one of their top selling items of the R&R brand.
I received three games to check out with my family and they have been great additions to our family game nights.
Pig Pile
No mud slinging allowed in this fun, fast-paced family game where players compete to corral the most pigs. Get rid of your cards first and be awarded the prime pile of pigs. Sounds easy, but pigs can be slippery! The more cards you have, the better your chances of calling out “Hog Wash!” and clearing away the deck! But don’t hog the cards too long or you’ll get stuck. Dump your cards the fastest to build the highest heap of hogs! The player with the largest Pig Pile wins!
Ages 7+ • 3 to 6 players • Playtime 40 minutes
CONTENTS: 80 Pig Cards, 40 Pink Pigs, Rules.
Honestly this game sold me when I saw that it came with little plastic pig pieces. Basically this game is a mix of UNO and WAR. Its a card game where you have to lay down a card higher than the one in the pile and if not, you pick up all those cards. The trick is after you use up whats in your hand then you have to move onto the “slop” pile which is randomly displayed in front of you. The directions were clear and easy to follow. Oh and the pigs are a way of keeping score (yeah for no pencils/paper) and a fun way to pose them while waiting for game play. My kids ages 6 and 7 were able to play this game and honestly my husband and I have played it alone as well. It is a great family game or adult game! You seriously can’t go wrong with little plastic pigs!
IGOR – The Monster Making Game
Players are wacky mad scientists creating ‘fearsome’ monsters for the Evil Science Fair! Whoever completes the most monsters will win the prize. Roll the dice and collect parts to build your monsters. But be careful! Leave unfinished work on the table, and someone else might complete it and claim that monster as their own! Remember, only those who yell “Pull the Switch!” can lay claim to the monster!
Ages 7+ • 2 to 4 players • Playing time 20 minutes
CONTENTS: 5 Igor Dice, 18 Monster Cards, 18 Helper Chips
This game is kind of like YAHTZEE but with monster making. It is kinda strange that you get this giant box for the few dice, cards and chips, but at least it is a sturdy box. I will say the directions were a little confusing and I did have to read them a few times but eventually I got it. What is great about games though at home is you really can make up your own directions if you’d like. It is definitely a different game and cute with IGOR and monster parts, but I think it needs more. It might be worth trying out if you are looking for a new and different game. The concept for the game is great, it just feels like its missing something.
Hide & Seek Safari Jr. – Panda
Play Hide and Seek with your new barnyard animal friends! Hide the cuddly plush Hide & Seek Safari Jr. Panda indoors or out. Your seeker wand tracks the animal with a signal that only they can hear. When the Panda hears the signal, he’ll call out to you! Listen for their sound and hunt around to be the first to find where the animal is hiding! Junior wands work with all Hide & Seek Safari Jr. animals. Batteries are included so it’s ready to play right out of the box!
Ages 3+ • Plush animal is 9″ high
This toy had my kids (7, 6, and 3) all entertained. One of my kids would hide the panda and the others would use the wand to find where he was in the house. It is as easy as turning both the wand and the plush on and then hiding the plush. When you push a button on the wand, the panda makes an animal noise and the kids have to go find it. The game is like Marco Polo or HOT/COLD. I would recommend this for any family! It has been seriously the most sought after toy in my house right now! My kids love that its just the On buttons and then the wand button they have push, no crazy settings or anything to configure. We have put our panda under blankets, in cabinets and far across the house and haven’t had any problems. The Hide & Seek Jr. has really surprised me and it would make a perfect gift for ay child.
