Now I am no where near a history buff and honestly I don’t really like history, but I am always open to new genres. I decided to give the book “Five Cities that Ruled the World: How Jerusalem, Athens, Rome, London, and New York Shaped Global History” by Douglas Wilson a chance. It is a book about how the cities Jerusalem, Athens, Rome, London and New York, each had important parts in shaping the world we live in.
I figured this book would be a great introduction to history for me since I really am clueless when it comes to history. The author wrote this book from an educational and theological point of view. It does have a Christian perspective, and I might have got more out of the book had it been written by a historian, but it was still an okay read. I learned a few things and appreciated the author’s ideas and suggestions. He pointed out some great facts and organized the book well. It is a short paperback book that is a quick read. Read this book with an open mind and you will appreciate the author’s thoughts.
You will either love or hate this book and if you are looking for a history book, then you might want to check out a different book, but if you are interested in any of cities mentioned that it is worth reading. I passed this book onto my brother who loves anything about New York and he is also a history lover, and he enjoyed it.
BUY IT: You can buy the Five Cities that Ruled the World at your local bookstore or at Amazon.
