The Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowship is offering recent college graduates and career changers in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, or math) a $30,000 stipend to complete an intensive master’s degree program at one of the fourteen participating universities. The Fellowship is seeking to recruit, prepare, and retain effective teachers for the students and schools who need them most.
Competitive candidates will:
- Have completed and undergraduate degree in a STEM program by June 2011
- Have graduated with a 3.0 GPA or higher
- Demonstrate a commitment to the program and its goals
Fellows will:
- Complete a field-based master’s degree in teacher education
- Commit to teach for at least three years in a high school.
- Receive intensive support and mentoring in the classroom
I think this is a great opportunity for recent or soon-to-be recent graduates as it is hard enough out there to find a job after college. The Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowship is willing to help and I think if it fits, then it is worth trying! So not only do you get a nice stipend for the program, but you will have a job afterward, help, and achieved your master’s degree! Now I have been out of college for seven years now but I remember how expensive it was and even back then the job market was not the greatest. So if you know someone who might qualify, this is worth passing on!
