My husband works for a pretty big insurance company as a computer guy but he still does get to hear about all the upcoming products and innovations for cars. From an insurance point of view I think they do want people to be good and safe drivers because then they don’t have to pay anything out. So you just pay for your auto insurance every month, drive safe, and never file a claim, which I think would be the ideal for them. I know things come up, especially with multiple drivers in the household and other drivers on the road but really everyone needs to be a safe and cautious driver.
I remember when I turned 16 taking a safe teen driving class that taught me from a book before we even got on the road. Now my younger siblings are learning from a computer program with actual simulations. It is pretty amazing how things advance in such a short period of time. There are even GPS tracking devices parents can install in the car or on their teens cell phones to check where they are at whenever they want.
Luckily my boys are far from driving (they are still in diapers and Pull-Ups) but I know the day will be here before I know it. I will probably be one of those over bearing moms who worries constantly about my teen on the road and if their driving safety.
As far as adults go, when we renew our policy in March I think we are adding a new option our insurance company offers which is a device you install under your dashboard to monitor your driving. It supposedly will not go against you but can help your premium cost if you are a safe driver. So it means no speeding over 80 mph, no braking constantly, and not driving too many miles in general. I like that it can’t hurt us and I am curious to see how my husband and I are as drivers, yes I am turning it into a competition!
