When my husband and I bought our first home, before we were married, we accepted any hand-me downs that we were offered. I was not picky and since we were fresh out of college and rehabbing our house, we didn’t have a budget for a lot of furniture and all the other household necessities. One set of furniture that I was so thankful for was the Cocktail tables my aunt gave us. It was a coffee table and two matching end tables, and to this day I still love them.

The cocktail tables she gave us have survived our three house and two active (destructive at times) boys, but they definitely are coming to the end of their lives. I am hoping to refinish them this summer and salvage them, but I heard that it will be tough since there is a distinct pattern in the wood grain (so sanding it wouldn’t go well.) I would love to get a more Modern console table set, but I figured we will do that after our kids are a little older! Right now they think the coffee table is where they play with their toys and climb on.

So hopefully I can refinish them to last a few more years and it would nice if I could stain them to match the nearby Accent table I recently purchased. It is a much darker and modern colored wood, while our cocktail tables are a lighter shade.
