With summer almost here, although in Chicago it can’t decide what season it is, I am thinking about hair removal. It is a dreaded topic for me as it is a never-ending battle I am constantly fighting. Back when I first started shaving my legs I remember my mom pushing Nair on me. That pink bottle was going to solve all my problems, or was it? So there I would sit with the Nair goop all over my legs for what seemed like forever, getting a headache from the smell of it, and then I’d wash the hair away. Between the time it took to let the Nair work and the smell, I stopped using it. When I did let it work its magic, it did work, I just didn’t have the time for it.
Now Nair has come out with a new product in the form of Brazillian Spa Clay for both your body and your facial hair. They are products to get professional results at home for a smooth summer, at a fraction of the cost for what you’d pay at a salon.
Nair Brazillan Spa Clay Total Care Body Trio is the only 3-step depilatory where it works while you shower! You start by wiping your skin with a pre-wipe that contains mineral oil and chamomile. Then you apply the spa clay which is resistant to water through emollients similar to those in waterproof sunscreens so it will resist runoff while you shower. I slathered on the clay, which is like a thick lotion, and hopped in the shower. It recommends keeping those body parts with the depilatory (clay) out of direct stream of water so I washed my face, my hair and then put in a conditioner. By that time I was ready to wash off the Nair. After my shower I applied the soothing post-use gel with Aloe Vera to my skin so help with any redness or irritation. Honestly my skin was fine afterwards. So how well did it work? It surprisingly worked pretty good! I was skeptical because of the whole “works while you shower” thing but my legs and armpits were pretty smooth! There was some spots that it didn’t work, but that could also have been me not putting enough of the clay. It is also hard to completely do your armpits since when your arms are down, your rubbing off some of the clay under there by moving. The smell was there, yes like the old Nair smell, but it was not at all overpowering like it used to be. My skin was fine afterwards too. By using this I can go a few extra days without shaving whereas I was shaving daily before in the summertime. Depending on how often you are using this and for how much of your body hair you can definitely get enough uses out of it to make the $14 cost worthwhile.
Now onto Nair Brazillian Spa Clay Total Care Face Trio. This is the first 3-step depilatory for the face which comes with a pre-balm, depilatory (like a lotion) and a moisturizer. This was something I was really interested in as facial hair is my arch-nemisis and has become out of control! First I swiped on the pre-balm which prepares the skin for the clay. Then I applied the depilatory and let it sit for just about 10 minutes. I wiped it off with a warm cloth and applied the moisturizer. I couldn’t believe how smooth my upper-lip and chin was! Now yes the smell is there, especially since its right by your nose but it was a small price to pay for me to get rid of the crazy hairs I had growing. I feel too like it kept the hair off and my skin smooth for a lot longer than other products I have tried. It is strong though and my skin did get a little irritated, but it went away after 30 minutes or so. So beware if your sensitive up there or if you are going somewhere right away!
