Aside from family, I feel the next highest influencers for kids are teachers. From preschool through college, a good teacher can really make a difference from a child enjoying school to hating it. As a mother of two boys with special needs, I heavily rely on my son’s teachers to work with them and start them off on the right track. Even though they are only in pre-school and kindergarten right now, I know if they had bad teachers it would create a negative image of school for them and make it harder for them to benefit from it. Luckily my boys have always had amazing teachers who treat my kids basically as they would their own.
My son Gavin’s preschool teacher is a perfect example of a great teacher. From his first day at school through today, she has really enforced school and learning for him in a fun way that he rushes out to the school bus every day. She also likes him so much that she pushed to have him again for his second year of preschool (he started going when he was just 3 years old) and I know it is going to be heartbreaking for him when he has to really say goodbye to Mrs. Barb in June. She sends home weekly newsletters explaining pretty much everything they did for the week, then I can really ask Gavin how his week went and understand what they are learning. In addition to weekly newsletters, she has been there whenever I had a question, she has sent home additional worksheets for Gavin to work on, and she just knows how to handle kids. I never understood why people who hate kids become teachers, but I definitely had some of those when I was younger. Mrs. Barb teaches the kids by focusing on each of their learning abilities and she is so patient with them. I will forever be grateful that she started out his educational foundation and time will tell how he grows as a student!

Office Depot is a company that recognizes the contributions great teachers make every day. Did you know that the average teacher spends $1,000 on essential classroom supplies with 92% of teachers spending their own money. Teachers can register their classroom with AdoptAClassroom.org to be eligible for funding from donors nationwide. 100% of AdoptAClassroom.org donations goes directly to teachers so they don’t have to spend their own money on supplies. I think if teachers get a little help on supplies and materials for their classrooms they will not be so stressed about money and can focus more on their students! I know for me I try to send in extra supplies for my son’s teachers because I know every little helps!
