I have always been a bit fascinated with time and the strange things it does. As a child when the summer holidays came, they felt endless as if these fun-filled days of outdoor play in the half-hearted British sunshine might last forever. Then by the time I’d finished thinking that, they had disappeared already, gone in a blink of an eye, and I was back at Woolworths getting fitted for itchy woollen skirts and having a tantrum at not being allowed ladybird shoes again.
As a Mom, time is still fascinating me. It seems to warp and change all the time with some days stretching on into infinity and others passing by in a blur of activities, work, play dates and household chores. At one point it was all getting a bit much, a bit hectic and a bit out of control. I’m sure you can appreciate that as a parent with a toddler, out of control does not feel too great. When I sat down and reflected upon why this might be, I quickly realised that my time management was not all it cracked up to be. If I am honest it was shockingly bad.
So what to do? I decided to take action and fast! I logged onto my PC and clicked onto www.ernestjones.co.uk to order myself a clock for the main room in the house and more importantly a watch for when I am out and about. This is when I am normally worst at time keeping. Some of it stems from the fact that I am always really late in leaving the house, hence ordering a clock too. But most of my lax time keeping happens when I am mobile and on the move.
I think I just get easily distracted; chatting to the bus conductor, calling my friend for a cheeky latte en route to play group, window shopping to the max on the high street, even a decent flower arrangement on a roundabout can capture my attention. You name it and I can get distracted by it and then all of a sudden my extra time is gone and whilst I was relaxed and with plenty of time I am now inevitably once again running late.
I am not going to lie and say that now I have a clock and a watch I am never late, because that would be an exaggeration. But I will say that I feel I have my time management better under control and that I find my days a lot calmer and a more organised. So perhaps it’s worth giving it a shot? If you too find that things sometimes creep up on you and then all of sudden it’s hard to keep your head above water then give it a bash, use a watch and see if it is like a magic time machine for you too.
