This post is part of a campaign with DiGiorno and The Motherhood, who compensated me for my time.
Did you know that most Americans only meet the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for proper nutrition roughly 7 days out of the year? That is only 2% of the whole year. Two-thirds of consumers want simple ways to follow the US Dietary Guidelines with prepared and whole foods. I know for me I have a hard time balancing meals for myself and my family. Sure I serve up nutrious wholesome meals for my family, but I know not every meal meets the right requirements for Fruits, Grains, Dairy, Vegetables and Protein.
Nestle has come out with the Freshly Made. Simply Frozen. campaign to help consumers create delicious yet nutritious meal. Using a frozen entree paired with something fresh can create a wholesome meal. I know “freezing” can get a bad reputation because its not fresh but freezing it is actually nature’s “pause” button. Vegetables are selected at the peak of freshness reducing nutrient loss that often occurs with fresh produce. Many frozen options are even lower in sodium, saturated fat, and calories than quick-service meals and national chain restaurants.
Some reasons for not eating healthy:
- Expensive
- Time Consuming
- Complicated
I know for me I use all three of the above excuses for not eating and serving healthy meals. I like fast and convenient meals and with three kids that are all in different activities dinnertime especially is crazy around here. Frozen foods are a dinner lifesaver over here. Luckily pairing a high quality frozen pizza, like DiGiorno pizzeria thin crust, with a fresh salad or a side of steamed vegetables can create a balanced plate.
What makes DiGiorno pizzeria thin crust pizzas high quality?
- Only the highest-quality ingredients are used – 100% real cheese, premium meats, crisp vegetables picked at the peak of ripeness
- No artificial flavors are used
- Preservative-free crust
- Made from scratch sauce using vine-ripened tomatoes and flavored with basil, thyme and oregano
Pizza is “bad” or “junk” unless…
You do need to keep it balanced first off with quality ingredients and appropriate portioning. To make sure you are not eating too much, check out the serving size suggestion. Balance the plate with half fresh vegetables and fruit.
Luckily too DiGiorno pizzeria thin crust pizzas comes in four varieties: Primo Pepperoni, Supreme Speciale, Spinach & Mushroom and Margherita.
I cooked up a DiGiorno pizzeria Margherita pizza for my husband and I the other night along with a salad, honestly it was so much better than the other option of fast food that night. I cooked up the pizza and then whipped up a salad with dried cranberries, croutons, tomatoes and yellow peppers. My husband loved that it was something different and that I paired the pizza with a salad. We are both trying to eat better and this time we actually had pizza leftovers from portioning – in the past we gobbled down a whole pizza and usually paired it with breadsticks which is not to say I won’t do that again but salad was definitely a lighter option.

DiGiorno pizzas are always delicious! The Primo Pepperoni sounds like it would be my favorite. Great idea to pair it with a healthy side dish too. 🙂

The supreme special with a salad is one of our favorites for pizza night. I am a fan of the thin crust option since it seems lighter and less calories.

I’ve eaten this type of pizza before but not the thin crust. I think I would like all the options!
