This week I spread some joy in my community as a Joy Maker Ambassador in partnership with Hasbro. As a Joy Maker Ambassador, I was provided with 50+ toys and games from Hasbro to donate within my community.
Here are all the boxes I received stacked up in my foyer:
I chose to donate them to my town’s annual Share the Spirit program which provides items to brighten holidays for about 800 low-income families. It started as an “adopt-a-family” program and then evolved to offering families the chance to “shop” in a store for their own families. Basically “shoppers” receive a big bag and are partnered with a volunteer who takes them to the tables of gifts that match their needs. Families also receive gift cards, books, stuffed animal and hats and gloves. It is a great program that I hope to be able to volunteer at next year.
Well Hasbro has partnered with generationOn, the youth division of Point of Light, for The Joy Maker Challenge to connect youth ages 5-18 to meaningful, hands-on service projects during the holiday season. The Joy Maker Challenge is a campaign was launched by Hasbro to encourage kids to spread joy to people in need during the holidays through volunteer service. For every kid and teen that volunteers during the Challenge (11/23-12/23), Hasbro will donate a toy or game to Toys for Tots, up to $1 million worth!
From November 23 – December 23, teens, teachers, youth development professionals and families can sign up or share their stories for The Joy Maker Challenge through the campaign website, which features service project ideas and downloadable planning tool kits.
The website also features eight project guides, developed by generationOn, to help youth learn about and spread joy to those who might be in need during the holiday season, including military service men and women, sick children, seniors and people without homes.
A grand prize winner will be selected at the end of the campaign to win a $1,000 grant, while 20 additional participants will be awarded $250 grants each
Throughout the campaign, one participant will be selected each week to receive a pack of 10 Hasbro toys to donate in their local community.
