As a mother, balance might seem like an impossible feat. However, it’s really about making the intention and letting your actions follow suit. Sure, some days will be better than others. Yet, there are ways you can develop a routine and a semblance of balance in your life. Consider these four ways to get yourself on a balanced path as a mother.
1. Self-Care
Take a spin class once a week. If you love art, go turn on some music and paint for an hour. Visit your local nail salon and get a pedicure. Do activities to take care of yourself. You don’t want to take care of the baby and lose yourself in the process. It’s all about balance.
2. Friendship
Call your friends and invite one to come and visit you each week. While you’re consumed with taking care of the baby, it’s helpful to have an adult you can talk to outside of your spouse. Even though you won’t be able to spend as much time with your friends, try to make a little time for them in your life. It’ll help you feel good and will also let them know that you love them in spite of your new and busy role as a mama.
3. Cabin Fever
Whether you’re a stay-at-home mom or a mother who is on maternity leave, cabin fever can get the best of your mind. Instead of succumbing to the insanity of it all, be intentional about getting out of the house to do things and go to events. Visit the mall and get a pretzel. If you love sports, go to your favorite games. To make things a little more fun and festive, purchase matching sports gear for you and the baby. If your favorite baseball team is in the middle of their season, purchase an infant baseball jersey for the little one and get out there. Even if you can only stay for an hour, it’s still worth the effort to get out.
4. Exercise
Even though you might not be in the mood for it, exercise will help you to stabilize your hormones and your mental health. It’ll also do wonders for your physical health as well. Try your best to find ways to squeeze in physical exercise every day. Purchase a few Kettlebells or 10-pound weights. While the baby is asleep, do weight-lifting exercises for 20 minutes without stopping. On other days, put the baby in the stroller and go for a long walk on an incline. These tricks will help you shed the pounds and maintain a sense of mental clarity.
