I received product/compensation in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.
All three of my kids have always been into science and are always creating their own “experiments.” Science has never been a favorite subject of mine so without instructions or a kit, I am clueless. Luckily there are some great companies out there who are all about science.
One company that makes great products that are science-inspired is Smithsonian, which reflect the collections in the Smithsonian museums and the National Zoo.
Smithsonian Mega Science Lab Kit
Excavate bones to assemble into a model dinosaur.
Erupt a mini volcano.
Observe the process of crystal formation.
Assemble your own weather station.
Six amazing STEM adventures that are safe and easy to do!
Ages 10+
This is a great set of six experiments with everything packaged up nicely together. The pieces are together so you don’t have to go searching for them. The giant poster is actually the instructions and after you are done with the experiment you can hang up the poster. I love this because it is an all-in-one kit meaning I don’t have to order anything special, just may need some common things from around house. Very easy instructions to follow. Perfect for a beginner science lover!
Smithsonian Jelly Fish Aquarium Science Kit
Watch a simulated bloom of jellyfish “swim!”
A colorful, mesmerizing and educational addition to any room.
Great for a desktop, tabletop, bookshelf or nightstand!
Learn about amazing and unusual jellyfish – their size, what they eat, how and why they sting and more!
Measures 9” high and 2 ¾” wide
LED light requires 3 “AA” batteries (not included)
For the price, you can’t go wrong as this is an awesome set. We had a similar set years ago that was a pain and had to be cleaned – this set is ready to go and no maintenance (other than battery changing as needed.) You just need to add three AA batteries, fill with water, two drops of dish soap and then drop in jellyfish. Once you turn it on, the jellyfish start floating around and really do look like they are real. I got this for my 13-year-old to keep on his desk and he loves watching them while he is doing schoolwork or just before bed. It is easily turned on/off.
I also made a quick video to show them moving!
