If you are like me then you are probably “What is a joggling board and why would I rock with it?” Well a joggling board is a symbol of warm hospitality and are sweetly romantic. The first joggling board was designed in the 1800’s and simulated a carriage ride with its rocking motion. Soon after joggling boards started popping up as porch must-haves in the South as spots to have conversations with friends and when courting.
The Joggle Factory started their company to help people all over experience family and togetherness while rocking together. Their company goes above and beyond as well with using locally sourced wood, safe paint and even the South Carolina Vocational Rehab program to employ workers who might not have easily found work otherwise.
The joggling boards come in different lengths and are a perfect DIY kit for dads. The boards are relatively built already and just need to be glued and hammered together.
My husband had our joggling board built-in probably about 30 minutes, well after waiting 24 hours for the glue to dry. Everything was very self-explanatory and easy to get it done.
Once set up the joggling board is ready to get your rock on and is a beautiful piece for a household. It is not weatherproofed for out in the elements but good for covered porches or anywhere inside your house. I actually haven’t decided if I am keeping in my front room as extra sitting and a literal conversation piece.
I am also considering using the joggling board as a bench for my kitchen table!
I honestly love the concept of the joggling board and wish I had a big ole’ covered porch to put it on as it would be amazing out there. In my house it is definitely a unique piece of furniture and something I never would have thought of. I admit it took awhile to get used to sitting on as you don’t expect to rock on a bench but it is nice once you start on it. I think my sized joggle board too is perfectly sized as it seats 2-3 people.
