While Spring is often synonymous with giving your home a makeover, it does not mean that you cannot freshen up your home this summer. In fact, with longer days and brighter skies, the summer may be the perfect time for such a makeover as you’ll likely feel more focused, enthusiastic and ready to go!
With that in mind, here are some simple ways in which you can freshen up and rejuvenate your home this summer!
- Light some candles. Lighting candles is a simple yet effective way to change the atmosphere within your home. For example, if you were to light candles for smokers, you’d be able to cover up any less than pleasant smells left behind by cigarettes. Candles also create warm, relaxing atmospheres, creating the perfect space for you to relax and unwind.
- Put together a cleaning schedule. As a parent, you’ll know that it sometimes feels impossible to keep your home sparkling clean. After all, as soon as you’ve finished one task, your children will make an appearance and undo your hard work (as if on cue). However, putting together a cleaning schedule (and sticking to it) is a great way to freshen up your home this summer, as it stops things from getting out of hand. This doesn’t mean you have to spend hours cleaning each day. After all, as little as ten minutes a day can make a huge difference – and there are plenty of hacks out there you can use to save time, such as these DIY carpet cleaning tricks. You should also encourage your children to get involved in the housework by setting them different tasks each week.
- Add a fresh coat of paint. Home renovations can quickly get expensive, but if you’re simply looking to shake things up a little, you don’t have to remodel your property top to bottom. Instead, you could focus on making smaller changes. For example, a fresh coat of paint on the walls or surfaces can drastically change your room. If you live in a rental property or are prone to changing your mind, you could instead hang peel and stick wallpaper. This is a great way to redecorate the space without dealing with permanent consequences, as it can easily be removed at the end of your tenancy agreement.
- Let in the natural light. Lighting can drastically change how a space looks and feels – which means one of the easiest ways to freshen up your home this summer is by changing the lighting. In some cases, you might want to buy new light bulbs or lamp shades that change the atmosphere of the space – such as if you switched from white, bright lighting to something more muted and romantic. However, you should also utilize windows to let in as much natural light as possible. This is because natural light not only lifts your mood considerably, it can also make even the smallest of rooms appear much bigger than they actually are. As such, you might want to ditch those heavy, bulky curtains in favour of something a little more lightweight.
