I walk daily with my neighbor but in the midwest, it is hit or miss here with the weather. Sometimes the weather is just too awful to go out in but I still want to get moving. It may seem simple and a no-brainer but my daily goal is 10,000 steps and it is definitely harder than you think.
Here are 5 ways I have found to keep moving at home:
Get some type of desk exercise equipment. I work from home and sit at a desk a lot and can’t believe I hadn’t heard of a desk elliptical before now. I love that I can get some steps while working.
Use the farthest bathroom. I found that by using the upstairs bathroom only during the day that I am forcing myself to get more steps.
Use a smartwatch or an alarm to remind yourself to get up and move every hour. Sometimes I get so wrapped up with work that I don’t even realize I was sitting for hours. I found that I can set our Amazon Alexa to remind me to move every hour even just for a few minutes. I use this time to head to the bathroom, get some water or even switch out the laundry.
Try an exercise video. I have found with Youtube and our cable provider there are so many options for workout videos. I have a goal to try out at least once a week whether it be yoga, pilates, weights and even Zumba.
Vacuuming surprisingly burns off a lot of calories and has me walking all over the house. I vacuum at least once a week and really get every nook and cranny while vacuuming. By vacuuming I not only have a clean house but I was able to get some steps in.
