I received product to review in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.
When I was younger computers were slowly starting to come out and our school had some that we were lucky enough to use. I remember looking forward to computer class and especially excited when we got to play games on them. Now the games back then were super limited with what you could do and the graphics were non-existent. We had to type numbers to do certain things in the game. One of the games was a lemonade stand and thinking back to that game it was a math game and I didn’t even realize it! I loved figuring out how much lemonade I need to make to make a profit after all my expenses of ingredients and cups. So simple but fun and educational!
Today’s kids are even more tech-focused than we were, so online resources are a perfect way to reach them and help them learn math. There are so many great math games and useful resources available that can help kids do math homework and have fun at the same time. Legends of Learning created a game called Awakening that is geared towards math and science.
You set up an account, choose the child’s grade and subject. It is so easy to get started and teachers can even customize the areas covered.
Features of Awakening:
- Unlimited math and science game access encourages players to have fun learning at school and at home.
- Expect at least a half a letter grade increase in test scores after just 3 weeks of use (according to Vanderbilt University study).
- Players can unleash their creativity with unlimited Avatar clothing and hairstyles, all while competing in quiz games and for top spots on the leaderboards!
- Players are logically progressed through the state curriculum through over 2000 state curriculum-aligned math and science games.
- Parents get detailed reports showing their mastery level and also the time they have spent engaged with specific standards or topics!
I was skeptical that an online game could really be that helpful but independent studies have confirmed it. I did play around with the game though and I will the questions are tough but they made me think and focus on the subject. I loved that it showed the correct answer if I got it wrong too so I knew the right answer. This particular one too had me battling another avatar’s animal and in order to battle I had to answer questions correctly.
Honestly, I have played a lot of “educational” games in my 16 years of being a mom and I like how this one grows with your child and tackles two tough subjects: math and science. It really does make the subjects fun for kids and they want to do better in order to play more in the game. The game does take a little playing around with but pop-ups do direct the player where to go and what they can do. There is some reading but everything is geared towards age you input for player.
There is really so much packed in and the best part is the cost is a steal at $59.99 for the year. You can pay monthly but it is half-price if you pay for the whole year. With two subjects and lots to do in the game I can’t see a kid getting bored anytime soon. They can also get their friends to play and be in a virtual world with them, no real names or scary chat to worry about.
