This past Tuesday I got to be a Special K Resolution Reporter at Chicago’s downtown Union Station. From 3-6 p.m. Special K had a giant display set up in their Great Hall for all the train station visitors to attend.
A description of the event:
Because Special K focuses on helping people lose weight and be healthy, at the event, people will be invited to step on a super-sized scale to reveal what they will GAIN when they lose weight (a common New Year’s Resolution) in 2011. Instead of a number, the scale will give an inspirational word or phrase that encompasses the emotional benefit of achieving a goal! You can also write your “gain” on Special K cereal packaging, take a photo with it, and share it with other women on the SpecialK.com community.
So yes I did have to step on a scale in front of a bunch of people and even though I knew it wasn’t going to display my weight, I was still nervous. I actually don’t really know one woman who jumps on a scale without that twinge of nervousness or guilt. I actually don’t even own a scale at home! So I stepped on the scale and instead of a number the word “Pizazz” popped up on the screen. The word that pops up is an inspirational word or phrase that embodies what women (or men) will feel is they achieve their goal. The goal of course is “What will you gain when you loose?” Some other words were Passion, Motivation, Confidence and more!
I was skeptical at first how many people would step on the scale, but the Special K Event was a hit! There were so many people in line, both men and women old and young, willing to step on the scale and get their picture taken. Yes they received a free t-shirt and box of cereal but I don’t think that is why most of the people did it. The event was just fun! There was a great announcer and music, and the Special K promoters were friendly and positive.
(not sure I want to get on the scale, but I do it anyways)
(The Scale) (Me with my Special K box – my phrase is “Cooking Confidence”)
I didn’t want to jump in and interview anyone specifically but I did listen to people’s reactions and they were happy and excited. One women got in line about 15 minutes before the event opened and was so excited to step on the scale. She had no clue that the scale would display a word instead of her weight or that she would get something free, she just wanted to do it! After she got her inspirational word, she happily took her picture with her box of cereal and actually stuck around to watch others do it. I still am amazed at how many people were in line to do it and how everyone really liked that inspirational words came out. I definitely think the event got people talking about weight loss and inspiration.
Now I know it seems strange to get inspiration from a cereal, but really it felt right. Special K has been known to help you loose weight by replacing meals with a bowl of cereal and now they are taking it a step further to show how loosing weight can also help you with inspiration. For example, by loosing weight you will probably feel better about yourself, gain confidence, feel Passionate, feel Pizazz, become motivated and more. Loosing weight is great in general but there really are other benefits to it and Special K really can empower those who eat it!
