As a mom I of course take advice from other moms, so when my neighbor lent me a Baby Genius DVD and said my kids will love, we tried it. My 17 month old is in the clingy phase right now and wants to be held all day so it is next to impossible for me to get anything done! Well thanks to Baby Genius, I now have some time and Gavin has come out of his shell a little bit.
Baby Genius is a company committed to producing “music-based products that are entertaining, educational and beneficial to the well being of babies and young children.” There have been research studies that links music with enhanced brain development as well as increased language, memory, coordination and social skills. I didn’t realize music was so beneficial but it makes sense and it also gets Gavin up and dancing and soon I am sure he will be singing along. My 35 month old who I thought wouldn’t like Baby Genius as much, actually looks forward to it now!
Old McVinko’s Musical Farm is not a typical barnyard. It includes 10 pieces, six of which are the farm friends from the DVDs. You can open the barn door to hear the Old McVinko song, watch the farm friends go around on a motorized platform, play with a few beads on the side, and roll the bar on the side. My boys sat for about 30 minutes straight and played with this and then I think they only got distracted because it was lunchtime. The best part of this toy though is it has a handle so it is easy to carry from room to room and even throw it in the car to bring with you. The song does get a little annoying after awhile, but it is still cute and my kids don’t seem to mind. It is for ages 2 and up and retails for $25.
The All-In-One Musical Band is another adorable product that is a drum, which inside includes a Frankie tambourine, two colorful drumsticks, two Tempo maracas, and a Vinko flute. The drum has a strap, which makes it easy for kids to wear and handles on the side if they want to hold it that way. I love that both boys can play instruments and then we go can store it all inside the drum. Gavin especially loves to play with this when he watches the Baby Genius DVD we have! It is for ages 18 months and up and retails for $18.
I also received Tempo’s Musical Broom, which I think is Gavin’s favorite. He is my little helper and loves to push my broom around so this is perfect because it is a kid-sized broom! The best part of the broom though is that it sings! So as Gavin sweeps, it plays realistic sweeping sounds, Tempo’s song, and three fun phrases! When cleaning time is done, you can even push Tempo’s nose to hear him giggle one more time. This toy is for ages 2 and up and retails for $10.
Overall, all the toys I reviewed we love. I really don’t have any issues with any of them and love how they feature the characters and are unique. The barnyard with it being motorized, the drum set where you can store all the instruments, and a singing broom, really makes these toys stand out. Other than the toys I reviewed, Baby Genius has a whole bunch of other awesome looking toys that would be perfect for any child whether they have seen Baby Genius or not.
