Beginning April 1 through April 30, Harlem Irving Plaza (The HIP) shoppers who purchase a HIP gift card will be providing aid to those effected by Japan’s recent disasters. The HIP will donate 100% of The HIP gift card sales in April, up to a total of $10,000, to the American Red Cross and its Disaster Relief Fund. The HIP is an official Red Cross monetary donation site and shoppers may also make cash donations to the Red Cross at The HIP’s Customer Service Desk, where the gift cards are sold.
Those HIP shoppers that choose to make a cash donation or purchase HIP Gift Cards will be recognized by having their name placed on a fan, which will be hung from the ceiling of the mall to show support for the victims of this disaster. In Japanese culture the fan symbolizes “new beginnings”.
The HIP is honored to be able to support the Red Cross in its relief efforts. The American Red Cross is where people mobilize to help their neighbors—across the street, across the country, and across the world—in emergencies. Each year, in communities large and small, victims of some 70,000 disasters turn to neighbors familiar and new—the more than half a million volunteers and 35,000 employees of the Red Cross. Through nearly 700 locally supported chapters, more than 15 million people gain the skills they need to prepare for and respond to emergencies in their homes, communities and world.
Built as one of Chicagoland’s first shopping centers, The HIP has been serving the shopping and community needs of its more than 1 million area residents for over 50 years. Anchored by Best Buy, Carson Pirie Scott, Kohl’s and Target, The HIP has more than 140 specialty stores, ranging from Aéropostale to Zumiez. The HIP is located at Harlem Avenue/Irving Park Road and Forest Preserve Drive in Norridge, IL.
