ABOUT:
The Tuneables are a new 30-minute animated DVD/CD series sponsored by the Music Intelligence Project. (The Music Intelligence Project promotes music education for kids.) The video series is geared towards children (ages 3-8) and features a magical world called Tuneville. In Tuneville, the characters hear and sing tonal patterns in songs, develop their rhythmic skills, expand the range of their singing voices and listen to classical melodies.
The series provides a learning experience for kids at a time when many schools are cutting budgets for music programs.
MY THOUGHTS:
Now I know nothing about music, but that doesn’t mean I want to keep it from my boys. I want to expose them to as many different things as possible so they can choose what they like and want to learn more of. Since my sons are in preschool they don’t have music class and I can hope that the elementary school they go to has a budget for music class, but who knows. At least right now I can expose them to music through The Tuneables.
The Tuneables is cute because each character resembles a different musical instrument and personality, appropriate to kids ages 3-8. The colors throughout the DVD are so bright and somewhat mesmerizing! My boys loved the characters and animation. The first time we watched this DVD we watched it three times in a row, they kept asking for more. Throughout the DVD there is lots of singing, dancing, and interactions. For example, the characters ask you to clap your hands, your knees and so forth – my boys were going right along with it! There are even some clips of real kids laughing along which was cute. While this set is about learning music notes and instruments, it flows just like a cartoon and my boys had no clue they were learning something!
If you are music-clueless like me, you can also download a free companion guide that provides in-depth information about how to expand musical experiences for your child.
