So I was fortunate enough to receive a few LeapFrog products to host a party with! So I invited a few moms and their kids over, ranging from 2-10 years old, and I will say as worried as I was about everyone sharing, they did great! Some of the kids played with the LeapFrog Tag Reader, others looked at the map and the rest gathered around the LeapPad.
LeapPad
The LeapPad is a learning tablet for kids ages 4 to 9 years old.
Features:
- Library of 100+ games and apps
- Works with all Leapster Explorer game cartridges, eBooks, videos and more
- Study Kid-friendly design – designed to be flipped, shaken and played with by little hands
- Built-in Camera and Video Recorder (with voice guide instructions for kids to edit and share their creations)
- 2 GB built-in memory to store all your child’s creations
- Leveled Reading Experience – Each book is actually three books in one, with different levels and modes optimized in reading development. As your child builds their reading skills, the levels adjust automatically.
- Track your child’s progress on the Learning Path website
- Includes attached stylus pen
My boys (3 and 4) love this LeapPad so much that if we didn’t also have the Leapster Explorer, I’d have to buy another LeapPad right away! First off I love that the games are interchangeable. We just got the Leapster Explorer last year and I would be mad if yet again I had to buy games for another video game system, especially so soon. While the LeapPad is only for one child, I could not believe how well the kids watched each other play and they were all amazed at how it was touch-screen and that you could tilt the player around in different games.
They took pictures, edited the pictures, read a book, watched a video, played a game and just fiddled with it. It is the perfect system for parents who are sick of sharing their iPad with the kids and/or who are looking for a system that really engages kids while teaching them spelling, phonics skills, mathematics, science, music, geography and more!
We also got an App card to download more connect from the Leapfrog store. With a few clicks of the mouse you can easily add games, books, and videos to your LeapPad (and Leapster Explorer). While the games don’t feature the popular characters or game titles, there is still tons of great content available! My boys are hooked on Jewel Train right now! (It’s a great puzzle game.)
This system brings stories to life by touching the Reader to pages in the LeapFrog books. Words talk, pictures sing and stories live out loud to engage children and create a fulfilling experience! Tag is recommended by 99% of teachers!
The Leapfrog Tag Reading System comes with the Reader and a sample book, but luckily I got a set of Learn to Read books to try out with it. The other parents and I were all super impressed with how easy it was for the kids to use. Just turn on the Reader and touch the words and pictures in the book. Yes it is just like an iPad app, where you can read the words and touch different pictures for additional language and sounds! The books look like regular books but with a gentle touch they come to live! Its nice to have my boys with actual books in their hands!
For even more fun, LeapFrog also sent me the Tag World Map for the kids to check out. It is a giant heavy cardboard map that is full of two-sides of fun!
Tag World Map
Soar into an around-the-world adventure as you learn fun facts and play games with the two-sided Tag™ World map.
• Teaches map skills, world geography and world languages.
• Meet kid characters from around the world and learn how to say “hello” in their languages.
• More than ten interactive games bring fun characters and map facts to life.
Right now my boys just tap around the map with the Reader, but there are games you can play with it. The map is quite durable and with so much room to explore, it was so much fun to have a few kids looking at it and learning about the different countries! One of the moms was even showing where they have family living (China) and the kids were fascinated with how far it is.
Overall, we were fans of LeapFrog before but now we are addicts! Their products have yet to let us down and I love how they are both educational and fun! Our party was a hit and I am sure there will be a few more LeapFrog presents under the tree now that all the kids (including my own) got a taste of these great products!
Here is my review of the products in a minute:
