Last year was our first year at Monster Jam and ever since my boys haven’t stopped talking about going back. So this year when we arrived at the Allstate Arena my boys couldn’t get inside the arena fast enough! At 3 and 5 years old, Monster Jam is a show perfect for young kids through adults.
The show started out with a guy introducing the show and then some dirt bike riders raced around. Next up the monster trucks started lining up. This year marks Grave Digger’s 30th anniversary and it was neat to see and hear from the driver throughout the show. The first part of the show featured the different trucks competing against another one in a scored competition. The trucks revved up the ramps and crushed cars and all of them put on a great show! There were some slow spots where the trucks were warming up but my boys were happy just looking at them!
Even though the arena floor seemed so small, the trucks did amazing on the dirt floor spinning around and catching ramps. Other than the monster trucks there was dirt bike riders and snowmobile riders. I missed both riders pretty much taking the boys for bathroom breaks. The intermission of the show even excited my boys because of the construction trucks that came out to move the crushed cars out of the way. Next up was a Freestyle event which was neat because all the trucks showed off. The trucks were scored and Grave Digger was the winner. It was amazing how none of the trucks flipped or anything crazy, other than a few car troubles. I admit though my boys were disappointed no truck flipped, as one did the last time we saw the show.
Overall though Feld Entertainments put on a great show for us. My boys had a blast and it was truly a family friendly show. Oh and I would definitely recommend some sort of earplugs for kids, I was fine without any but probably should have worn some. This show is also not just for truck fans as I was even excited to see what the trucks would do!
