Okay so Twitter Moms have teamed up with Jooners to ask for 5 tips for volunteering. Jooners is a website where you can create an online sign up sheet, automate the process, take care of the reminders (and Thank You notes), and increase volunteer participation and donations.
So honestly I haven’t yet volunteered because my son just started school in January and I have another son to take care of. I do have ideas though and from volunteering in the past. I get notices weekly about opportunities and I feel bad I haven’t helped out yet.
- Use the Internet or email for sign-ups. I am not a phone person, but would rather receive email communications.
- Make the times of day spaced out. I can’t volunteer until my husband gets home to watch the kids, unless I can bring them with me.
- Send out notices far enough in advance for people to sign up and plan their schedules around.
- Offer enough information in advance and at the event so everyone knows whats going on before, during, and after.
- Offer ways for volunteers to work from home. I would love to help out by coordinating, emailing, or calling others if I have to. I would love to help out, but like I said I am homebound until my husband gets home and even then we are trying to eat dinner and get the kids in bed.
