    High-Quality Wooden Toys From TreeHopper

    When I was little I feel like I had a lot more wooden toys then I did plastic and I am sure for my mom’s generation it was probably even more so.  I feel like wooden toys today are a rare find and if you do happen to find them they are usually expensive.  Something about a wooden toy just brings back memories for me to a simpler time before all the obnoxious plastic toys and technology.  So many toys toys fall apart after being played with or just don’t engage my kids like I’d like them too.

    Well Tree Hopper Toys is one store that hasn’t forgotten about how simple, yet engaging wooden toys can be. Since 2010, they have been crafting wooden toys from hand selected Midwestern hardwoods right here in a Chicago-based workshop.  Starting with a homemade organic toy finish, each step of their production process works toward creating an engaging heirloom instead of just another toy.  Kids can safely play with these toys while exploring their curiosity and creativity.

    I got the chance to check out three of their toys and my kids (ages 16 months to 5 years old) had a blast.

    MATCH STACKS – Zoo Animals

    MATCH STACKS™ are fun and educational, so the kids in your life will love putting their brains to work!

    Each set comes with 16 wooden discs with 8 sweet designs, each with a twin. To start, flip them all upside down and mix them up. Now all you have to do is start matching!

    Encourage kids and guide them through play to strengthen their memory, vocabulary, spatial skills, verbal abilities, and simple logic. There are currently five versions of MATCH STACKS™, all of which are interchangeable, allowing you to combine multiple sets for added difficulty.  ($19.99)

    My kids have Memory type games where the cards get worn after playing with them just a few times or we end up losing them because they are small and flimsy.  MATCH STACKS are so nice that my boys actually didn’t know what to do with them!  They are thick wooden discs that my boys can hold and not ruin.  These will actually last and my boys love the designs.

    Shelly – Jalopy

    This ALL NATURAL, multi-purpose Hopper Jalopy™ is a great rattle, grasping toy, and it’s perfect to chase around!  Made from fantastic midwestern hardwoods, this Hopper Jalopy is beautifully fun.

    Each piece is super smooth and lightly finished with our 100% natural, custom beeswax blend, allowing you peace of mind while the kid in your life shakes, rattles, and rolls to their heart’s content!

    This little Jalopy is a simple little car that my 16 month old loves to roll around.  Its smooth wood finish makes it safe to roll and hold for young kids.  I love the durability that she can throw it around and I don’t have to worry about plastic pieces breaking off.

    Yo! The Yo-Yo

    YO! It’s simple, fun and classic.  Pick up this all natural wooden yo-yo and you’ll be on your way to walking the dog around the world in a cat’s cradle!  Hand printed and lightly finished with our custom beeswax blend. ($15.99)

    This is actually my boys first Yo-Yo and I am so happy its one that will last.  I remember having a yo-yo when I was little that was plastic and the first time I let it go down it smashed into a bunch of pieces!  The nice thing about a wooden yo-yo is its durable!  It also has just enough weight to it that it glides down nicely.

    Overall, I love that high-quality wooden toys still exist.  Tree Hopper’s quality in the three toys above is really amazing and they are toys that can be passed down for generations.  The prices are also extremely reasonable especially when you think about how long they will last.
