    Being afraid is just a part of growing up, but as a parent I want to do everything possible to comfort my children’s fears. A company called “The Shrunks” has made it their mission to help kids eliminate their fears by creating some pretty cool products. With a child’s imagination running wild starting at the age of 2, kids cannot distinguish the difference yet between reality and make-believe so the Shrunks toy company researched kids fears and anxieties. Through their research, they have designed a practical and fun toy collection. Their core purpose is “To give kids the power to eliminate their fears through the power of play” and you have to love their core values: Love kids, Make everything a game, Design touches everything, and Keep our promises. They have even created a family called “The Shrunks” that children can relate to.

    The Shrunks toys are also “Fear Free Approved,” this means their products are safely made from no-toxic materials and have been thoroughly tested and inspected. So not only are their products fun for your children, but they are safe! Okay so now you are probably wondering what type of products they make.

    The Shrunks products are separated into 4 categories:

    • Fear Gear – Durable plastic toys including: Big’r Magnifier, Blow’r Whistle, Mist’r Spray, See’r Flashlight, Yell’r Blow Horn, and Fear Bust’r Kit. These are awesome toys that are perfect for whatever you child is afraid of.

    • Ududolls – Squeezable, stuffed plush buddy that each represents a child’s fear.
    • Tuckaires – Safe travel toddler air beds designed to give your children a good nights sleep.
    • Sunny – A fearless dog specially trained by the Shrunks to sleep with one eye open so he can watch over your children from those scary noises, monsters under the bed or closet, or whatever else they are afraid of.

    I was lucky to receive one of their Ududolls, “Thunder” to check out, and both my sons love it. You see Aidan is afraid of loud noises, especially thunder and when he saw this super cute plush of a thundercloud he started laughing. I love that these plush buddies are in a way making fun of the fear and showing kids that there is nothing to be afraid of. We haven’t had a storm since we got this doll, but when we do, I am going to have him hold his ududoll and I am sure it will comfort him. These dolls come in 7 different styles and are hand stitched from super soft material. They come in 12”, 8”, and 4” and Aidan loves to snuggle with his. These adorable dolls also start out at $8 and best of all are easily hand washable!

      My son would totally love the thunder as he is soooo scared of storms, too! Especially since a huge tree fell in our back yard last summer and that is all he talks about when there is a chance of a storm. This doll could ease that fear!

      When Aiden is afraid of something, I usually make a game out of what ever is scaring him. He then associates it with being fun and not scary. Sometimes he is scared of a animated stuffed animal so I usually start playing with the toy myself and then he realizes that there is no reason to be afraid.

      I try to get my daughter occupied when she is afraid, but that doesn’t help much when she should be sleeping

      My little one goes to bed just fine, but wakes up with nightmares around 2 am. We try to make her smile and wait til she falls back asleep to put her back in bed.

      Some of my friend’s kids are scared of the dark in bed. So mabye I’d give them the Closet ududoll.

      I think it’s hilarious that they have one for “tooth decay.” My daughter must be afraid of that, because she brushes her teeth multiple times a day! I think I’d pick “alien” if I won, though, because he’s too cute for words!!

      I am fortunate to have children who are not too fearful. However, whenever they have been afraid, we talk about how I can understand how they could be a little nervous, then we talk about it & check it out together & come up with solutions for overcoming their fear. Or think of something silly instead.

      When my kids get scared I talk to them and explain what they are really seeing or hearing. My youngest isn’t quite 2 so what helps him is his favorite lovie and blanket along with a back rub.

      What helps my kids when they are scared is we talk about what has them scared and we pray. Sometimes I chase the monster out.

      The thing that helps my child when she is scared of something is her little stuffed puppy dog named Flippy. She carries him around with her all of the time but really snuggles in close when she’s afraid. Thanks again!

      Alison hates storms and so does our dog they cuddle together when it storms. I try to read to them and I don’t make the dog get out of bed. Usually he sleeps in his bed on the floor.

      My son is two and has only gotten scared of “bed monster” once so I took water and put it in a spray bottle and told him it was spray to make monsters go away… and it worked! Thanks.

      When my daughter is scared, she usually wants me to hold her. She buries her face in my neck and with a few encouraging words, she is better.

      What helps my child when they are afraid is for me to talk about it and do a little play or just stay with them in the dark for a bit and stroke their tummy.
