    My 1st attempt at cloth diapers!

    Okay since before my 2 yr. old was born I have thought about cloth diapers. Now I am not necessarily interested in them because they are so much better for the environment but I love the fact that they will save me money. I mean diapers cost a lot of money, even if you get them on sale and use coupons, and the worst part is, is that you use them once and throw them away. Every time I change my sons diapers I think how there goes $.10 or whatever the per unit cost was. I know I am over analyzing, but ever since I have become obsessed with researching cloth diapers.

    Through my research, I have come across an awesome site called “Banana Peels Diapers.” Banana Peels Diapers has everything and anything related to caring for your baby including: cloth diapers, clothing, organic products, baby wearing and so much more! Really there is so much to look at and the website is so easy to maneuver and has awesome pictures of everything. They carry such a large selection from all the favorite brands we have grown to love!

    The best part of the website though is the product learning section where it includes links for calculating the cost of using cloth vs. disposable, 10 Great Reasons to use Cloth Diapers, other web site links, and a diaper dictionary. You can also enter to win a FREE diaper by subscribing to their newsletter, every month a winner gets to choose a diaper of their choice!

    So anyways back to cloth diapers. So Heather from Banana Peels Diapers was nice enough to send me one of their Bum Genius 3.0 One-Size diapers and I love it. I have never ever tried a cloth diaper before and even though I know they have come a long way, I still think of my mom using them on my brothers and poking them with the pins. Well no more, these nifty diapers have snaps and Velcro in all the right places! Oh and did I mention that cloth diapers come in a huge variety of colors and patterns. I mean now a cloth diaper is like an accessory, how cute is that!

    Now I am bias when it comes to cloth diapers since I have nothing to compare the Bum Genius to, but I love it. It was so easy to use, even my husband figured it out! A waterproof outer with elastic in all the right spots and a super soft lining, made this diaper fit both boys comfortably. I could see this diaper too being great for when one of them has diaper rash since it is not itchy or scratchy. The best part is that it fits from 8-35 lbs. so both of my sons can wear the same ones. I only have one so I do have to wash it a lot as both boys are big wetters but so far no leakage. They did have more padding to them then disposable diapers but that was okay for us since Aidan has no butt so this diaper actually helped keep his pants up! It was also nice since we are trying to potty train and it was closer to big boy underwear than a disposable diaper is.

      I am a new Grandmom & I had no Idea the variety of cloth type diapers!
      I first went to Banana Peels learn about the products link & I am still moondoggled! I am leaning towards the BumGenius or the Fuzzibums both in the AIO… I like that they come with an insert too.
      I also researched the Potty training link for the oldest grandson.

      I’m not sure if I would use their diapers everyday, but I really think these would be great to have on hand for storage. If I had 5 or 6 and there was an emergency where I couldn’t get diapers, I would still have a back up. I love how the products are so user friendly.

      I think the wet/dry bags are a great idea. It elminiates the problem of what to do with used cloth diapers when you aren’t at home. Fabulous! 🙂

      Their website is awesome and so easy to navigate! I’m definitely bookmarking them. The other diaper websites I’ve seen are either really clunky or don’t have such a huge selection, or both.

      I like the Happy Heiny one-size diapers. I wish I knew about those when I had my first! It would have saved us a lot of money. We ran out of money to keep buying the AIO’s in the next size so we started using the disposables we could get for “free” at CVS. We’re going to try to invest a little money again when #2 is born.

      I also really like the globe beanbag on their home page, but didn’t see it for sale anywhere.

      I love that you’re doing this contest w/bumGenius. I did so much research for cloth diapers during my pregnancy and was almost going to rule out bumGenius because of the cost. My husband said “if your really going to do the cloth diaper thing then lets do it right. If bumGenius doesn’t work for us then it will be a learning experience.” Two month later and only having used bumGenius, I love them. It would be great to be able to add another diaper to my son’s pile.

      I’m hoping to CD my next (due in 3 weeks), and have NO clue what I’m getting myself into.

      I would have to say that the one size bamboo diapers interest me most. I have 2 already and they are SO soft.

      I haven’t tried Bum Genius – so would love to add that to my collection since I’ve heard lots of good things about them!

      The best way to clean cloth diapers is to pre-rinse them off in the toilet using a Bathroom Bidet Sprayer. So convenient and if you are trying to help the environment (and your pocket book) you can give it a double whammy by virtually eliminating toilet paper use, at the same time as you benefit from using it on the diapers, by using it on yourself. I think Dr. Oz on Oprah said it best: “if you had pee or poop on your hand, you wouldn’t wipe it off with paper, would you? You’d wash it off” Available at http://www.bathroomsprayers.com they come in an inexpensive kit and can be installed without a plumber. And after using one of these you won’t know how you lasted all those years with wadded up handfuls of toilet paper. Now we’re talking green and helping the environment without any pain.

      i went straight to nightime diapering! i learned about the benefit of wool in a nightime cover and it answered a q i had about the baby’s skin being able to breathe and how to clean a wool cover.
