So every month seems to celebrate something and next month (April) is Earth Month. As you can guess Earth Month is a month dedicated to ways to help and improve the Earth. One way is to shop for natural and organic foods in bulk. The Bulk is Green Council (BIG) is an organization dedicated to increasing consumer, retailer and grocer awareness of the environmental and economic benefits of buying in bulk. I guess I never thought of that before but it makes sense. Buying wholesome products in bulk saves packaging, waste and even money. I am usually pretty good about buying certain items in bulk and even sometimes split them with my neighbor or mom so the food doesn’t go to waste – I mean it defeats the purpose too to buy in bulk if I throw half of it away!
I received some bulk foods to check out and some recycled glass storage jars to store bulk foods in an eco-friendly way. The samples were foods commonly found in most bulk foods aisles of grocery stores nationwide including:
- Non-GMO Certified whole grains from Lundberg Family Farms
- Natural and USDA-Organiz snacks and confections from SunRidge Farms
- USDA-Organic spices and tea from Frontier Natural Products Co-op
- Fair Trade Certified and USDA-Organic Cacao Chips from SunSpire
