This August my little brother will be heading off to college and moving into the dorms. It got me to thinking about when I first moved into the dorms. I was the first in my family to go to college and none of us really knew what to except or do! First things first though was to get me moved into my dorm room, which proved to be a lot harder than we anticipated. First I remember we had to park so far away since it was craziness right outside the dorms. We then loaded everything onto a wagon and a golf cart, carrying the rest. Then we got to the dorms after maneuvering around the other what seemed like a million students and realized of course there was a wait for the elevator. I was on the 7th floor and our choices were to wait in the super long line and squeeze into the elevator or we could walk up the seven flights of stairs. We decided to walk and honestly I thought either my tv would break or my mom would have a heart attack on the stairs. I remember thinking at the time how nice it would have been to pay someone to do it for me! I mean its not like I had that much stuff, so it couldn’t have costed too much, but at the time there was nothing like that available. A company like Toronto movers probably would have been helpful.
Now though at 50+ college campuses, there is a student-run moving company that will move you in and out of your college dorm, house, apartment and storage facility. Campus Bellhops is a company started by two students from Auburn University who started the business which has grown to cover 50+ campuses and employ 2,500+ students. Once you choose Campus Bellhops, you will receive an email prior to the move that includes the bios of their two assigned Bellhops. A standard dorm move is just under $100, which would have totally been worth it for me! I know if my brother’s future college had Campus Bellhops, my parents would have no problem paying for it. No carrying a heavy tv, microwave, mini-fridge, storage bins or anything else! Did you know that 56% of college kids pack between 11-15 boxes for a move? So $100 to save all those trips, yes please! Plus if Campus Bellhops are moving you in, then you have more time with mom and dad to spend quality time before they leave you off on your own (also know as going grocery shopping for snacks!) I think this is a genius idea and I hope it spreads to more colleges! If you are in Canada check out this great moving company in Toronto.
