This past June my family and I headed to Donley’s Wild West Town in Union, IL, for the first time. We fell in love with the simplicity of the park, but how much fun it was. Before then I had never heard of there being a real Wild West Town right here outside Chicago! So when I heard they were doing a Fall Festival, I couldn’t wait to go with my family! Through October 27th, Donley’s Wild West Town is hosting the return of their Fall Festival! Donley’s Wild West Town will not only feature its regular rides and activities but also a pumpkin patch, spooky train rides, entertaining attractions and a pumpkin painting contest.
So first we checked out all the regular rides and attractions, which was a blast of course and then we tackled the Fall Festival attractions. We also took my in-laws and great grandma with us as they had never been there before.
Attractions:
- Shooting Gallery
- Slingshot Range
- Adventure Canoe
- Archery Range
- Mine Car Rollercoaster
- Pony Rides
- Carousel
- Train
- Gold Panning
We rode the train twice, once through the Spooky Tunnel and then next to the Pumpkin Patch to pick out our free pumpkins for the kids that were included in the ticket price! Awesome deal as these were good sized pumpkins for them. Oh and the Spookey Tunnel is not really spooky in terms of blood or people jumping out, just a strobe light and some props.
Overall, we had a blast and I highly recommend visiting Donley’s Wild West Town. My kids are 2, 5 and 6 years old and there was something for all of them to do. Really there is something for all ages to enjoy. Honestly my favorite is the museum as there is just so much to look at and soak in! My husband likes the live show and my boys like the Mine Ride and Archery. If you are looking for someplace that isn’t overwhelming for kids with noises, electronics, big rides and crowds, Donley’s is definitely a place to check out. Its amazing how many people it holds but it doesn’t feel crowded in the slightest. We actually felt like we were the only ones until we saw the live show and realized there were tons of others!
VISIT: Donley’s Wild West Town is located in rural McHenry County at the intersection of Route 20 & S. Union Road, 3 miles south of the Village of Union at 8512 S. Union Rd. This place is actually about 30 to 45 minutes away from us and I do believe my sister went on a field trip to it back when she was in elementary school. It’s a really neat place for kids to visit! 🙂
