Did you know that 75% of US homes have a combination of carpets and hard floors? In my house we have probably half and half, wood and carpet and I like to have one vacuum that can clean all of it. Dyson is a brand to me that means durability and reliability. When my husband and I were first marries, our first big purchase was our Dyson vacuum. Back then (8 years ago) that was a huge purchase for us and honestly I just handed that vacuum over to my mom when I got a new one! Yes my 8 year old Dyson still works and sucks, in a good way! I was though thrilled to try out the new DC65. Now that we have three kids, I definitely needed a bigger and powerful vacuum (my old Dyson was the Slim and didn’t have the ball to maneuver.)
Dyson DC65
Some features:
- Brush bar power increased by 25% for superior carpet cleaning
- New configuration of bristles dig deeper into carpets to remove more dirt
- Remodeled airflows to help remove more dirt, dust, and allergens from the home.
- 180AW of suction (vs. 160AW in DC41)
- Comes in three colors based on variant: Platinum (MF), Purple (AN) and Fuchsia (ANC)
- Self-adjusting baseplate
- Long-reach telescopic wand – I can reach all the way up my two sets up stairs with the wand!
- 2x suction of any other vacuum
- Closer edge pick-up
- Built to survive 10 years
- Hygienic bin emptying
So how did the Dyson DC65 handle my house? It works awesome! I will say it is heavier than I expected, but again my last Dyson was the Slim and a lightweight version. Once I got used to the weight required to push it around it worked great. No dirt or debris stood a chance when I vacuumed over it. My family room looked especially good after vacuuming it as I have just been doing a quick vacuum over it not realizing how dirty it really was! My two favorite features (other than the suction power) are the long cord which allows me to vacuum a few rooms before unplugging and the long wand. The wand also easily lifts out of the top and pushes back in rather than needing to disconnect it and then re-attach it. Seriously super easy! The ball on it makes it easy to maneuver around, especially around corners and edges.

While I don’t have animals, my kids sure do make a mess constantly. Before kids I could vacuum once a week and now its like once an hour. I don’t mind vacuuming with the Dyson DC65 because its a vacuum that I can go over spots once rather than over and over to pick up the dirt. You do receive a few tools to use with the wand, but honestly I’m lazy and not one to really change the tools on. I have tried the one smaller mini-vacuum looking one on my stairs and that was nice, I think it would be great on fabric couches to suck up pet hair. Being bagless is a huge plus as well, with you just pushing a button and the bottom of the canister easily being entered into the garbage. I also feel like the canister fits a lot, I haven’t even had to empty yet! There is definitely an improvement on old Dysons and there really is nothing I don’t like about this vacuum.
Overall, I love this vacuum and would recommend it to anyone. It is expensive, but when you consider that it is built to last at least 10 years I think thats worth it. When your a busy mom (or dad) vacuuming shouldn’t be something that takes up your whole day either!
