Most parents are well aware that there are some sure-fire tricks which can enable a young child to enjoy a restful sleep. In fact, turning to an electric blanket is a great way to add a little comfort to cold nights where sleep is difficult to come by. However, there are still a few aspects to consider when purchasing one of these cozy wonders. Let us quickly have a look at a handful of the main concerns to address.
Different Materials
The skin of a child is more sensitive than that of an adult. So, certain materials can actually cause a bit of discomfort. Wool blankets are sometimes abrasive and may lead to a slight rash. It is always best to make sure that the cloth is hypoallergenic to avoid any such issues. Thankfully, you will normally be able to return any blanket if you discover early that your child is not comfortable.
Safety Issues
We will first need to take into account the safety features that a blanket offers the child. Naturally, the unit should have a built-in fuse that will automatically deactivate the power in the event of an overload. Also, the heating elements must never be exposed (a common occurrence in older models). While the unit should provide adequate heat, there also needs to be a manual control that can be locked into place. This can help to avoid an accidental adjustment that may overheat your child when he or she is sleeping.
A Timer
Good electric blankets will be equipped with a timer that can be set for a certain period of time. It is rare that a blanket will need to be kept on for the entire night and of course, this type of automatic deactivation is another great safety feature.
These are some of the main factors to consider when purchasing a heating blanket. By adhering to such basic concepts, you can rest assured that your child will achieve a safe, sound and cozy sleep.

I think electric blankets help with sleep tremendously. My family has one and we use them a lot in the winter.

I like that you can get them with timers that will turn off. Thanks for the review.

I didn’t realize their were blankets with lockable controls. That is good to know. Thanks for sharing!

I had never thought about using an electric blanket to help kids sleep. My mom uses one all the time and she loves it. I’m going to ask her if it helps her achieve sleep, maybe it does. 🙂

I have always been a bit leery about electric blankets. When the kids were younger, I always had nice warm pjs for them to sleep in and never used an electric blanket. You have brought up some really good points to consider though, if you do use an electric blanket for them. Great review!
