We’ve made it through a week so far of school and already one of my kids has a runny nose. It never fails that when school starts so does the illnesses through our household and with five of us it makes its way through as many of us as it can.
As a busy mom, I don’t have time to take my kids to the doctor constantly, especially if it is something I can treat at home. It seems, too, whenever we go to the doctor for one thing, one of my kids ends up catching something else from the sick kids waiting there. I obviously can’t say for sure that is where my kids got sick but it does seem to happen each time we go.
As I said I try to self-treat any illnesses my kids have before we go the extreme of seeing a doctor. Sometimes it takes rest or just the right medicine and yes sometimes an illness does require a doctor visit for stronger medicine.
To stay on top of things I like to keep a medicine box ready for when I need it. I keep the basics as far as medicine goes and thermometers. I have had to do a run in the middle of the night for medicine for one of my kids before and that is not something I’d like to have to do again, so I keep my medicine box stocked and fresh.
A sore throat is something that happens often with the common cold virus but it can be hard to diagnose. Well now there is a way to observe, compare and report to your doctor what’s going on in your child’s throat and mouth with the new SayAhh! Sore Throat Home Exam Aid.
The SayAhh! Sore Throat Home Exam Aid is a scientifically-designed, patented tongue depressor that minimizes the gag reflex so parents can examine their child’s throat at home. In addition to the tongue depressor, the kit also includes a flashlight and a chart with medical-grade illustrations and descriptions of six common childhood throat ailments (strep throat, coxsackie, mononucleosis, etc.) Guarded with the chart, parents can have a solid basis for comparison to what should be seen in a normal throat, then report this to their doctor’s office.
By examing at home, parents can save money from co-pays, time from doctor visits and have knowledge to know when an appointment is needed. I have taken my kids to the doctor before because I was so sure they had strep and it turned out it was just a bad cold. We were sent home with the recommendation of rest and staying hydrated.
