If your like me then you probably save all your digital pictures and home videos on your computer. What happens though if your hard drive crashes or you loose your device? Those pictures could be lost. I have also seen posts on social media where people have lost their phones and they had pictures of loved ones they also then lost. I admit I take more pictures these days on my smartphone but I don’t always think to back them up. A few months ago my hard drive on my laptop crashed and I lost everything. Luckily I didn’t have any personal photos on it but I did have a ton of videos on it that I lost.
Well we have all probably heard of the “cloud” but may not exactly understand what the “cloud” is? Well cloud storage is like a big hard drive in the sky that you can access from anywhere. Let’s say you upload some pictures at home to your cloud and then head to a family members house or even work and want to view your photos, well if they are in the cloud you can! Cloud storage can hold files of your choosing and you just need an account to access it.
You may think you don’t need cloud storage but it is something you will be glad you have at some point. I wish I would have backed those videos from my laptop up to the cloud rather than telling myself I would tomorrow and so forth.
Amazon has added cloud storage to what they offer with their Amazon Cloud Drive.
If you are a Prime member then you automatically get Unlimited storage for photos and 5 GB for videos and files.
If you are NOT an Amazon Prime member, you can still use the Amazon Cloud Drive you just have to pay a yearly fee. The free Unlimited storage for photos and 5 GB for videos and files that Prime members get costs $11.99 or you can get Unlimited storage for photos, videos and files for just $59.99 per year. You get a free 3-month trial with either plan.
Amazon Cloud Drive can be accessed via the web on Mac, PC, and tablets. The easiest way to get started is using the Amazon Photo app, available on Android and iOS devices, which automatically backs up your camera roll – freeing up valuable space on your device, so you can take more pictures and videos! I love that my smartphone’s pictures are automatically uploaded and saved, no worrying that I accidentally deleted a photo on my phone or if I had to reset my phone, I won’t loose any pictures or videos. This is great too if I want to be able to view my smartphone’s photo’s from my computer as I just have to log on to to Amazon Cloud Drive.
Here is what my desktop looks like so far – I have over 1,000 photos so it is taking a little bit:
So no more excuses for loosing photos or not having a backup, especially if you are one of the more than 30 million Amazon Prime subscribers. Even if you are not a a subscriber, its still worth it – the $59.99 plan comes out to just about $5 a month which is a great price for peace of mind.

It is just about every week that I get another reason to finally join prime. I think next time I need to order something I’ll finally do it!
