Okay so I have been out of college now for seven years and that really seems like a lifetime ago already! I know though many moms are not as lucky as I was to finish (or even start) school or as far as going back to school after kids, it is just a dream for many. I would love to go back to school and take some classes, whether it be towards an MBA or just a different major focus. I could not though even think about how I would go to a traditional school now that I have kids. I barely have time to work on my blog and see my friends, let alone taking classes somewhere. Other than the inconvenience of having to drive to a school and back, there is the cost, quality of education, and whether or not the school has classes at times I can attend.
This is where an online university comes in, the American Public University specifically. It is a school that is entirely online focused and is a member institution of regionally-and nationally accredited school recognized by numerous military, federal, private and public sectors. So basically as far as creditability and quality goes, it is safe to say that American Public University is not a scam or unknown school.
So now there are the two other issues I have with going back to school: Flexibility and Affordability. Well, unlike traditional universities, American Public University (APU) offers classes on a monthly basis (instead of semesters) with accelerated programs and flexible courses. With it being 100% online, students can obtain degrees from anywhere in the world on their own time and schedules. The school also offers more than 100 online degrees and certificates in subjects ranging from homeland security to management and liberal arts. Okay next is affordability and APU’s tuition is one of the lowest in the country for accredited online universities. If you are taking an Undergraduate class it is $750 for a 3 credit course and $900 for a Graduate-level 3 credit course. APU”s overall cost for undergraduate tuition, fees, and books is $21 per semester hour less than the average four-year public university!
Now I am definitely not ready now to go back as we are putting my husband through grad school right now (luckily his work is helping financially) so maybe in a few years it will be an option for me, but I do really like what American Public University has to offer, although I am bias as I haven’t really looked into online schools. I just think it is a great way for moms to get back into the real world and have something to call their own – even if it is homework!
