    Celebrating Valentine’s Day with the Peanuts Gang

    This year I have been asked to be a 2016 Peanuts Ambassador and as someone who has loved that silly dog and his friends, I was thrilled to be asked. What better time too to share some Peanuts fun that with the month of love coming up!

    Did you know that over the years, Charles Schulz created dozens of Valentine’s Day-themed comic strips? Many of the strips revolved around Charlie Brown’s eagerness to receive valentines…only to be disappointed, every. single. time.

    Other times Charlie Brown’s stomach was in knots as he received a valentine from the Little Red-Haired Girl or had to give her one.

    Did you know that in real life, the Little Red-Haired Girl was a co-worker of Schulz’ named Donna Johnson Wold? Wold and Schulz eventually became romantically involved and dated for three years, but in 1950 when Schulz proposed to her, she turned him down, saying she was already engaged. Schulz was devastated, but he and Donna remained friends for the rest of his life.

    Other than comic strips, Peanuts has two primetime TV specials devoted to Valentine’s Day. The first one, Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown, originally aired on CBS on January 28, 1975 and now airs every year on ABC.

    The second TV special, A Charlie Brown Valentine, is the 40th special. It was initially broadcast on February 14, 2002 on ABC where it continues to air now. In this special, Charlie Brown attempts to win the heart of the Little Red-Haired Girl.

    Luckily the specials are also on DVD so if you miss it on television or want to watch it year round, there is a DVD to own!

    Every year, Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts gang can be found on hundreds of different Valentine’s Day gifts, including cards, plush, books, candy and much more! This year, for the first time, Oriental Trading is offering an array of colorful Peanuts toys, party supplies, and crafts for Valentine’s Day. Also new are adorable Peanuts Pez and a ready-to-read book, called Happy Valentine’s Day, Charlie Brown, from Simon and Schuster. And, returning by popular demand, are Whitman’s chocolates featuring a Snoopy plush, A Charlie Brown Valentine DVDs from Warner Home Entertainment, and holiday cards from Hallmark.

      We grew up with Charley Brown and the Peanurs Gang. We have so many fond memories of the Gang at Christmas.

      We have a family friend who is a huge snoopy fan. She has this snoopy that dances and when my son was a little toddler he was terrified of it. he would run away from it whenever someone would turn it on.

      I’ve always loved the Peanuts: watching the holiday specials, reading the comic strip in the paper when I was young. My favorite character is Marcie!

      I have loved Peanuts since I can remember being alive. I look forward to the “specials” on TV each holiday so I can see them again. My boys love them now too. Peanuts rock.

      We haven’t seen the new Peanuts movie yet, but it looks really cute! Usually when they do a remake of older cartoon characters, it’s all new-looking and doesn’t have that great retro feel to it. However, judging by the commercials and the movie trailer, this movie seems to be staying close the Charles Schulz’s original creation. That makes me so happy!

      I am a huge Peanuts fan going all the way back to when I was a kid. This past Christmas, I got 2 new Snoopy’s for my collection. 🙂 My kids love the characters, and we look forward to when that new movie is released on DVD.

      Oh I just love the Peanuts; they’ve been a fave of mine since I was little. What a cute prize pack; the PEZ are so unique. My daughter would really enjoy this; especially the video.

      My aunt loved Woodstock. At 80 years of age, she got a small Woodstock tattoo on her upper arm, that’s how much she loved him 🙂

      I grew up with the Peanuts gang. It is good, clean fun anything that is associated with the Peanuts gang. The whole family can watch anything associated with Peanuts.

      I grew up loving the Peanuts gang. I took my daughter and her friends to see the new movie-they’re 10 and it was funny because I laughed at things in the movie that go back to when I was little and watched the cartoon that they had no clue about so they were looking at me like I was nuts.
