I received products in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.
Summer time for my household means lots and lots of hours of “I’m bored”, ” I don’t want to read” and “Mom, this is summer vacation not school.” My boys are 7 and 9 years old and I am always looking for ways to engage them, especially over summer vacation. Well the “It’s All About…” book series is exactly what I had in mind! The series includes 10 books currently (yes more are coming out) that are packed with facts and stats and eight amazing collector cars to tear out, trade or keep. The books are not huge and overwhelming either, which I know for my kids can be intimidating. Each book contains just enough information to give kids the main idea of the non-fiction topic its about. Readers also receive access to a free downloadable audio version of each book they purchase.
The current books available in the series are:
- Violent Volcanoes
- Scary Spiders
- Super Solar System
- Amazing Sharks
- Polar Plunge
- Rushing Rivers
- Beastly Bugs
- Remarkable Rain Forests
- Deadly Dinosaurs
- Wild Weather
So what do I really like about these books?
They are about 30 pages long and packed with tons of pictures. The font is broken up by pictures and tables of information, very aesthetically pleasing if I don’t say myself!
The books are not hardcover but they do feature a very thick cardboard cover that is more durable then if it were a paperback book. This is important to me since my boys are rough with books and I like to seem the books last as long as possible!
They are not necessarily pocket-sized but thin enough they can be easily carried around or better yet just the trading cards can be carried! The trading cards include a picture and facts about a certain animal, place or thing. For example in “Amazing Rivers” each card features different rivers and stats about them.
There is a Glossary in the back of the books. My boys are just learning about dictionaries and how to reference things so this is perfect since its right in the back of each book. No more looking online or in different books to clarify something.
The topics are fun! My boys are like sponges when it comes to non-fiction topics and I don’t know everything (even though I do claim to.) This series covers topics they want to know about and are perfect starter books to see what they are interested in. My 9 year old realized he is really interested in weather and my 7 year old loves animals. With this series we found that out and now I can look for other books specific to their interests.
The series is also great for expanding kids knowledge on other topics so they can learn a little (or a lot) about everything! Even though my boys have their more specific interests I love seeing them swap books so they can learn about other topics. We actually keep these in the car since we seem to be in the car a lot these days and they read a page here and there. They have even been quizzing each other with the trading cards!
With summer just around the corner, the “It’s All About…” series is one that I highly recommend and I say that as a mother of two reluctant readers. I love seeing their faces soak in the information when they are reading and then when they ask me to learn more about the topic. So if you are looking for a way to keep your kids engaged this summer vacation (especially in a way they won’t realize they are learning) then head to your local bookstore or find the “It’s All About…” series on Amazon.
