I received the product below to review in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.
This Christmas I looked at my kids lists and now that they are getting older they are getting harder and harder to shop for. They want items that are very expensive or an electronic gadget (which is also usually expensive.) Don’t get me wrong I am not saying electric toys or technology is bad, its just sometimes I wish for simpler times! Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a store dedicated to creating innovative educational materials that engage young imaginations and create a love of learning? Well that is exactly what Lakeshore Learning is!
Lakeshore Learning is a store that is both online and an actual storefront. If you don’t have a Lakeshore Learning in your area luckily the website is fabulous to shop on. From infants to tweens, Lakeshore Learning has a product no matter the tastes. Honestly I can browse the website for hours as there is so much offered and its all organized by category and grade/age.
I got the chance to check out a few products from Lakeshore Learning that are perfect for engaging kids and inspiring. I haven’t had time to play with all of them yet because I wanted to hurry up and share some gift ideas, but I do feel like I picked some winners!
My First Fashion Designer
This set is for ages 4 and up. It is the perfect set for any budding fashion design to start off with. You get tons of pieces of square fabrics, little plastic pins (not sharp), a plastic doll body and design booklet. It is very cute and perfect to inspire fashion. My 5 year old love dressing up in different prints and colors and I thought this set would be fun to let her experiment. It is very simple, just some fabric pieces you push into a doll body. I figured this would be fun to draw on paper her different fashions as well. For $20 I think its a neat set. I was thinking too it would be easy to cut up and add other pieces of fabric from around our house or scraps from the store.
The Maze Cube
This is a big plastic cube that features a little metal ball in it that is to be rolled around through the various mazes. I figured this would be great to unwind with and keep my fidgety kids busy. Sometimes my kids need something to focus on that is fun and this cube has a lot to play with. It is plastic though so I think if its dropped it is going to crack or scratch. I might even keep it in the car, even though its big, to keep my kids busy while traveling.
Young Scientist Chemistry Lab
My 5 year old daughter is all about science experiments lately and luckily Google has been helpful to find some but obviously the internet can be overwhelming! This kit features six simple experiments that include step-by-step directions and everything needed for the experiments! I love that we won’t have to go digging through the cabinets to find ingrediants needed and all the experiments can be done right on the fly! I am actually thinking how perfect this set will be for when my kids to go their grandparents! Everything is included and they can have fun and learn while at grandmas! After you use up all the ingredients, they can easily be replaced for future experiments thanks to the directions.
Draw and Shrink Craft Kit
When I was younger, I loved Shrinky Dinks. The sets are not as available now as they used to be though. Well this new set includes 10 sheets of paper, coloring pencils, charm chains and designs to trace. For those that can free hand, you can easily draw creations and shrink them. For those who need some help, you can easily trace the designs! I feel like this $10 set is going to last us awhile and keep us busy for the cold winter coming up! I am thinking how fun it will be for my daughter to make designs for her friends, seasonal directions and just bring her own creations to life!
